The post holder will manage high value and complex external contracts and responsibility of this role is commensurate with that. This post will specifically lead the management of the outsourced pathology services contract at Whittington Health NHS Trust, a contract with a value in excess of �100m.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring contracted providers deliver key contractual obligations as set out in the relevant contracts. This will involve working closely with Trust managers, finance and business intelligence business partners, and clinicians to understand service context, and Trust governance and performance management processes.

The post holder will be expected to lead the commercial contract-delivery discussions for the Trust. This will include negotiations with the outsourced contractor, external bodies, both NHS and non-NHS, on the contract performance.

The postholder will undertake risk assessment and planning to mitigate these risks, which may include leading on negotiations for new services or changes to existing contracted services.

The post holder will work in partnership with divisional and departmental staff to identify service improvements that mitigate risk or enhance clinical care and maximise efficiency, productivity, and utilisation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead the contract management of a high value and complex outsourced pathology services contract on behalf of Whittington Health NHS Trust and shall monitor and evaluate services in accordance with contracted activity levels and key performance/quality indicators identifying risks/adverse variances and manage these through the contract management process.

The post holder will be accountable for providing an expert and complete overview of performance of the contract and assurance to relevant governance meetings on compliance against performance measures, finance activity performance and quality providing advice, analysis, and information as required, managing and escalating risks as appropriate.

Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • First degree in relevant numerical, commercial, or legal discipline or equivalent level of experience
  • Master's Degree or equivalent demonstrable career path
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Specialist knowledge of writing and managing contracts


Desirable

  • Membership of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply or other relevant professional qualification


Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of contract negotiation and advice
  • Experience of contract drafting and commercial practices
  • Experience of manipulating, analysing and reporting data


Desirable

  • Highly developed specialist theoretical and working knowledge of contract management procedures and practices
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the NHS including the political and business agenda.
