Job description

Job responsibilities

You will be responsible for the management of the Scientific Medical Microbiology service and will also be the scientific lead for the department and the Trust.

You will act as an independent expert practitioner as defined by the Biomedical Scientist board of the Healthcare Professions Council. You will exercise autonomy within professional and managerial boundaries, setting priorities, initiating developments and overseeing audit and training across the team.

The post holder will also be responsible for provision of a 7 day service, participating in the weekend rotas as required. When necessary, participate in the routine work of the laboratory and the more complex investigations of the department, providing advice and guidance to microbiology staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc and MSc in Biomedical Science, IBMS Fellowship examination or equivalent
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
  • Advanced specialist theoretical and practical knowledge post Fellowship experience in Microbiology, and substantial experience at Chief Biomedical Scientist level or above.


Desirable

  • Formal general management qualification
  • Evidence of training in change management
