Senior Sister (Band 7)
We are looking to recruit a professional and enthusiastic senior sister who will be expected to support and provide strong leadership and clinical expertise to staff working within the Childrens assessment area and Children's inpatient ward at Airedale General Hospital to provide acute and elective care to patients.
The role carries continuing responsibility for the management of the Children's unit, as delegated by the Matron. We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate a kind and compassionate attitude, with skills and experience to lead effective and efficient peadiatric care.The post holder will lead and manage the nursing teams to allow them to provide high quality family centred care as well as lead and manage changes within the ward environment, role model safe high quality clinical care and ensure managerial duties are undertaken.
You will be an experienced Children's nurse with leadership experience. The successful applicant will have strong organisational skills and will be able to inspire multi-disciplinary team working and drive change. You will have a strong ethos around delivering excellent standards of care and seek to improve patient safety through ensuring stock/equipment/staffing/ward environment are maintained at a consistently high level of safety and clinical standards. You will need to be highly skilled in communication to be able to have challenging conversations and complex negotiations with members of the team.
Main duties of the job
To ensure the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with recognised standards of practice.
To work within national, regional and local guidelines relating to nursing practice.
In all these respects, to perform as a professional role model to junior staff.
To manage revenue expenditure so that budgetary limits are not exceeded.
To demonstrate a commitment towards quality care by:-
a) ensuring junior staff have an awareness of quality issues
b) facilitating the setting, auditing and maintaining of standards
c) encouraging the initiation and implementation of quality initiatives
To ensure effective communication between all staff, patients, their families and visitors .
To take responsibility for self development and that of all staff with regard to professional knowledge, managerial skills, clinical skills and competencies.
To ensure that yourself and all staff participate in individual performance review at least annually.
To facilitate the orientation, induction and training of new members of staff of all grades.
To lead and actively promote developments in nursing practice based on relevant research, clinical audit and professional consensus.
To ensure that all nurses undertake or participate in at least one research, clinical audit, practice or service development project annually.
