Job description

Job responsibilities

The Newcastle Hospitals' Foundation Pharmacist Programme is built on the Royal Pharmaceutical Societys post-registration Foundation Curriculum. Each clinically-focused placement is accompanied by structured learning and is supported by a specialist clinical pharmacist practice supervisor, ensuring that our pharmacists are given the best opportunities to develop a solid foundation of clinical knowledge and skills as they progress through their training. Our foundation pharmacists work on a job plan with protected time for self-directed study, and are encouraged to complete post graduate qualifications, including independent prescribing. Further development opportunities are provided by participation in our highly-valued extended-hours and on-call service, which allows us to deliver more comprehensive patient-facing care. Pharmacists completing our foundation training will undoubtedly be in a very strong position for future career opportunities with skills that reflect the needs of the future pharmacy workforce.

For further information please see the attached Foundation Pharmacist Programme leaflet.

The recruitment days will be conducted in person on Wednesday 14th August. The recruitment day is organised so that individuals will take part in a group activity, have a one-to-one interview, a tour of the department from a current foundation pharmacist and also a presentation by the recruiting team to inform candidates about the posts. Due to the nature of this you will be required to attend in person and therefore remote (via Teams) interviews are not possible.
  • To perform the role of a clinical pharmacist providing high quality professional and clinical input into the delivery of medicines management and operational services
  • To contribute to the Trust wide clinical rotation gaining knowledge and experience to facilitate future career progression
  • To contribute to the extended hours and Trust wide on-call service

As a flexible working friendly organisation, we want to be sure that you can work in a way that is best for us and for our patients, and for you. Speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement. If it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

Please note it is a requirement of The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first months pay.
