We are recruiting for a Nurse Team Leader who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

You will work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary management-clinical team in renal. You will demonstrate expertise and leadership in the delivery of care to patients requiring Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) in the form of haemodialysis.

This post holder will be expected to rotate between the haemodialysis units as service needs dictate and to gain invaluable experience.

To participate in the Renal On-call service as necessary.

In addition, you will receive aHigh CostArea Supplementof 5% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of �1,192and a maximum payment of �2,011per annum pro rata.

Main duties of the job

Utilise effective communication methods with nursing and medical colleagues, patients and visitors in ways that are consistent with their level of understanding, culture, and background.

Refer patients to other appropriate multi-disciplinary team members when needs and/or risks are beyond own scope of practice.

Reinforce developments, improvements, successes, and achievements at every opportunity supported by relevant and accurate information.

Constructively tackle queries and objections to developing knowledge, ideas and work practice and making alternative proposals.

Evaluate own effectiveness in influencing the policy agenda and use this to inform future practice.

Undertake annual appraisals and performance monitoring as designated, in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.

Qualifications / Training

Essential

  • First level nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register, educated to diploma level.
  • Relevant clinical post-registration education to include a recognised renal course and mentorship qualification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to life long learning.
  • Evidence of leadership training / development.


Desirable

  • Relevant health care related degree


Previous Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience caring for patients requiring renal nursing


Desirable

  • Involvement in audit / research and willingness to present findings at meetings and conferences
  • Advanced skills in quality assurance of patient dialysis treatment.


Skills

Essential

  • Ability to communicate effectively - excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of leadership and motivational skills, ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Demonstrates a flexible approach, able to react to the changing needs of the department.
  • Ability to use negotiating skills in a positive manner to influence change within the department.
  • Ability to liaise and work with the multidisciplinary team, making recommendations to enhance the smooth running and management of the unit.


Desirable

  • Representing Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in their absence.
  • Understanding of scheduling and capacity.
  • Ability to manage self and others in delivery of own work and related clinical outcomes to meet department expectations


Knowledge

Essential

  • Has an understanding of managing a busy dialysis unit.
  • Awareness of current developments in pre and post registration nursing
  • Understanding of risk management, health and safety and other clinical governance issues.
  • Knowledge of local and national health care initiatives / innovation to improve patient care, experience and safety.


Desirable

  • Competent person (risk assessor)
  • Computer literate - relevant to renal department
  • Understanding of expenditure and budget management.
