The post holder will work with the Directorate Management Team and Family Health Leadership Team to manage the Clinical Genetics, Integrated Sexual Health, Psychosexual and HIV service to achieve the Trust's vision of being 'Outstanding in health outcomes and patient and staff experience. The post holder will be responsible for providing business support and leadership. The role includes aspects of operational and performance management as well as service development to ensure that the service achieves its performance objectives

Main duties of the job

The Reproductive Health directorate within Family Health Division is looking for one full time (37.5 hours) ASGM to join their busy team. The post holder will be responsible for working with divisional management, Specialty General Manager, and work closely with the nursing and clinical leadership teams to ensure the service is operationally managed on a day to day basis ensuring robust performance management to various targets, financial and budgetary management and line management.

The post holder will be expected to deputise for managers on occasion and ensure sufficient cover for colleagues.

The post holder may also be required to link in and be the specialty level expert with various projects to provide support and guidance.

Job responsibilities

Provide strong, visible leadership within the services

To take a lead role in business management for the Directorate

To analyse and monitor activity plans, RTT performances, financial performance of the Directorate.

Assist with the development and implementation of cost improvement schemes through service redesign

Performance management including regular performance reports.

Monitor standards for administrative functions, including data quality and turnaround times

Complex data interpretations

Business case /writing submissions

Finance and target management

Governance and risk management

Staff management

Support the Services in providing opportunities to continuous service improvement

Represent the business unit and lead/contribute to Trust-wide initiatives and projects as required

Training & Qualifications


  • Post graduate (or equivalent) business or management qualification or significant experience in an operational business management role with well-developed business management skills



  • Experience within the healthcare sector at management level
  • Evidence of having achieved challenging healthcare/business targets
  • Knowledge and understanding of secondary care funding regime e.g. commissioning, payments by results and service level agreements


  • Experience of ling managing staff and human resource management
  • Experience of managing healthcare resources

Communication & Relationships


  • Good communications skills, written & oral
  • Ability to lead successful teams and influence and motivate staff to deliver challenging targets
  • Ability to present complex data
