An exciting opportunity to join the Personal Safety team, as part of the wider Training and OD team. The Personal Safety team delivers Prevention & Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) training, Breakaway, PSTS (all certified by the BILD ACT, Restraint Reduction Network) and Search training. We are looking for a candidate to join the team who has the specialist skills for this unique position. As a qualified GSA tutor, you will support the delivery of this important training locally as well as externally. As a qualified nurse, you will also act as a Clinical Lead within the team to support the implementation of reducing restrictive practice in clinical areas and leading clinical projects within the team.

With expertise in the field of PMVA and Restrictive Interventions, you will assist the Personal Safety and PMVA Lead in representing the Trust in promoting training and support strategies in the PMVA and use of restrictive interventions internally as well as externally. You will have the opportunity to develop knowledge, practice and research in this specialist area.

The job is Monday to Friday. Working hours can be flexible between 8-4pm or 9-5pm to support the delivery of training. There are opportunities to work from home on an ad-hoc basis.

Main duties of the job

They will be expected to provide knowledge and expertise in clinical practice when supporting staff who provide care to people exhibiting aggressive and/or violent behaviour or subjected to restrictive interventions.

The post will encompass training and education, input into risk management, policy development, staff support and improvements in patient care and experience. In addition, the Personal Safety team works closely with the Resuscitation Team, and it is important that the post holder is supports delivery of the training within that team when applicable and required.

Main duties of the role:

o To ensure compliance with relevant core standards and targets within local teams

o To ensure cost effective delivery of personal safety training

o To deliver effective training that supports personal safety training plans

o To support clinical teams in reducing frequency, severity and impact of violence and the use of restrictive interventions

o To deputise in the absence of the Personal Safety and PMVA Lead

The must haves for this role:
  • Professional qualification in mental health/learning disability nursing or other registered clinician at Degree level
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience of inpatient mental health or learning disability settings (in line with RRN training standards)
  • GSA (General Services Association) Tutor Grade A
  • Experience delivering personal safety training.
  • Teaching qualification eg. PTLLS or willing to undertake the training.
  • First Aid at work trained or willing to undertake the training.

    Education/Qualifications/Training

    Essential

    • Professional qualification in mental health/learning disability nursing or other registered clinician at Degree level
    • First Aid at work trained or willing to undertake the training


    Continuous Professional Development

    Essential

    • GSA (General Services Association) Tutor Grade A
    • Teaching qualification eg. PTLLS or willing to undertake the training


    Previous Experience

    Essential

    • Minimum of 2 year's clinical experience of inpatient mental health or learning disability settings (in line with RRN training standards)
    • Experience of applying physical intervention techniques in practice
    • Experience in delivering a variety of personal safety training


    Desirable

    • Post registration experience in a Forensic inpatient unit
    • Post registration experience in a PICU
    • Post registration experience in an adult acute mental health inpatient unit
    • Post registration experience in CAMHS


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Essential

    • Knowledge of contemporary issues in PMVA and Restrictive Interventions
