An exciting opportunity has arisen for an excellent midwife with recent, community midwifery knowledge and experience to join the maternity leadership team in Barnsley.

As a Registered Midwife you will be responsible for supporting the outpatient Matron and the Continuity of Carer Lead Midwife in ensuring that our service users needs are met through the delivery of high-quality, safe care.

You will be required to offer holistic person-centred midwifery services built on evidence-based information, while supporting effective risk assessments, implementation and evaluation of personalised care plans.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the management and co-ordination of locality based midwifery services.

The Post Holder will provide specialised knowledge, expertise, advice and guidance to women and their families within the community setting and act as a lead professional in the area of Normal Midwifery Care.

The Post Holder will work autonomously with a caseload of clients in a range of environments, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating full programs of care from conception, throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period. This would include Health Education and Social Care. This role will also support the necessary service improvements outlined in Better Birth (2016) and the Maternity and Neonatal three year delivery plan. Reducing preventable stillbirth and improving choice and personalisation for the women choosing their care at Barnsley as a key decision for all service users is where they want to give birth be it at home or in Barnsley Birth Centre.

To provide the population of Barnsley and the surrounding areas with the highest standard of midwifery care possible in conjunction with other disciplines. The community midwife will be the lead professional for the home birth service, providing a 24hr on call commitment to include emergency cover for labour suite and unexpected home births.

  • Registered Midwife with extensive post registered experience
  • Degree level qualification or relevant experience
  • Management qualification or relevant experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Able to provide mentorship and preceptorship.
