This is an exciting opportunity to join the Audiology Team to support the Audiology service across Wolverhampton and Cannock Chase.

We are looking either a graduate Audiologist ( newly qualified are welcome to apply) , a specialist Audiologist, or STP Graduate interested in Balance, or Tinnitus & Hearing Therapy on an Advanced Audiologist who has extensive experience of either Advanced Adult Audiology, including adults with additional needs, tinnitus and hearing therapy or balance assessments and some knowledge of vestibular rehabilitation to join the team.

Banding will be dependent upon qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.

Main duties of the job

The Audiology team includes clinical scientists, hearing and balance therapists, highly specialist audiologists and a relaxation therapist and is expanding.

You will join a team of Audiologists and work collaboratively with the wider audiology team to deliver and develop a comprehensive adult Audiology service within the trust across all sites (New Cross, West Park, Cannock Chase and the Gem Centre, and will primarily be based at Cannock Chase Hospital.

This is a fixed term Maternity leave cover position however there is a possibility that the post may become permanent as our service continues to grow.

Job description

Job responsibilities

At Band 5 the post holder would be expected to undertake all aspects of routine Adult Audiology and will be encouraged to undertake rotations into other specialist areas, to gain knowledge and experience and aid future career choices.

At Band 6 level we would expect experience in a specialist area and would encourage training in this are at Masters level to include the BAA higher Training Scheme Modules.

At Band 7 the post holder(s) will be responsible for delivering training and expert advice to meet the clinical requirements of the Service. The post holder will support the Hearing and Balance Therapy Manager, Diagnostic and Rehabilitative Manager and Audiology Service Manager to ensure that clinical and professional standards are always maintained. The post holder(s) will lead Audiology in delivering patient centred care using streamlined pathways. To work in conjunction with the Hearing and Balance Therapy Manager, Diagnostic and Rehabilitative Manager and Audiology Service Manager to ensure that the designated service areas are delivered against performance targets.

The post holder will be responsible for the management and safe use of the team equipment & stock and supplies, within the limits of the designated budget.

Person Specification



  • Level 6 BSc in Audiology or BTEC MPPM & BAAT pt 1& 2 and RCCP/HCPC/AHCS registered (Band 5 & 6)
  • Level 7 MSc Module/Certificate/Diploma in specialist area (Band 6)/ Level 7 MSc in Clinical Audiology or Hearing Therapy or equivalent level of knowledge/expertise in field and CAC/STP/HTS or equivalent practical qualifications in general and specialist areas and RCCP/HCPC/AHCS registered . (Band 7)
  • Level 6 Post graduate management/ leadership qualification (Band 7)



  • Theoretical and Practical knowledge/specialist knowledge or advanced knowledge of the assessment and rehabilitation of hearing-impaired adults
  • Post graduate management/ leadership training or experience as supervisor ( Band 6 & 7)



  • Able to undertake routine diagnostic assessment and rehabilitation (Band 5)
  • Ability to work with high level of autonomy in clinical and non-clinical situations including assessment, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and management of patients and their families (Band 6& 7)
  • Understands the performance management and appraisal process and is able to work with team members to set achievable personal and team objectives ( Band 7)



  • Experience of working in a clinical Audiology setting (Band 5)
  • Evidence of being a positive role model with the ability to demonstrate a credible, professional approach and manner at all times (All bands)
  • Experience in formulating comprehensive management plans based on case history information and diagnostic test results, where management decisions may not be straightforward (Band 6 & 7)
  • Evidence of participation in clinical audit, research, and / or presentations at scientific meetings. (Band 6 & 7)



  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills ( Band 5) and developed interpersonal and influencing skills. (Band 6) or highly developed interpersonal and influencing skills (Band 7)
  • Able to identify and overcome barriers to all communication with patients of all ages, including those with additional needs such as profound deafness, learning disabilities or where patients are reliant on sign or language interpreters (All bands)
  • Communicates complex information (which may be sensitive) to staff, patients and relatives using reasoning, persuasion, reassurance, tact and sensitivity overcoming barriers to understanding .(Band 6)
  • Ability to pass on expert and highly technical and/or condition related information with reassurance for better understanding including in stressful or conflict clinical and non-clinical situations necessary (Band 7)
