We are recruiting qualified Nurses/ODP to join our exceptional ophthalmic Scrub theatre team based in our Short Stay Surgical Theatres at the University Hospital of Wales. Ophthalmic is one of the specialised services provided within the Health Board and are renowned as highly skilled and a vital part of the wider Perioperative Care Directorate. In some instances, the Senior Theatre Practitioner may be required to assist, under the direct supervision of the Operating Surgeon, such as skin preparation prior to surgery, draping, catheterisation, use of suction and application of dressing (as per UHB policy).

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The scrub person is responsible for ensuring that the used trays and supplementary equipment are returned to the SSU in a neat and tidy condition, following the safe disposal of sharps.

Following the operation, the scrub person is responsible for the completion of all care documentation and entering the information into the Theatre Management system.

The scrub person requests that the circulating person opens the appropriate tray and then opens and hands the supplementary equipment to the scrub person maintaining sterility of the items.
