Would you like to join our progressive, ward based and patient focused Pharmacy service?

As we continue to develop our clinical services we have opportunities for highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacists to join our friendly team. This post offers you the opportunity to progress your career in an environment that values excellent communication and team work.

We support our staff to undertake fully funded Clinical Diploma and Independent Prescribing qualifications and this post includes progression to Band 7 after completion of the first year of the Clinical Diploma (Certificate).

We encourage applications from trainee pharmacists due to register after completing the GPhC assessment in Summer 2024 and qualified pharmacists from other sectors who are interested in expanding their practice into hospital.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any further questions or wish to visit us.

Main duties of the job

You'll join our friendly team of rotational pharmacists. We provide clinical rotations through medicine (including cardiology, neurology, respiratory, endocrinology and gastroenterology), surgery, acute admissions, paediatrics and aseptic services.

Although this post is based at Musgrove Park Hospital, as Somerset NHS Foundation Trust we provide clinical pharmacy services to two acute hospitals, specialist mental health units and community hospitals across Somerset, so there is opportunity to gain experience in a wide variety of settings and to work alongside pharmacists specialising in these areas.

You will be supported by our team of senior pharmacists (including independent prescribers) and by accredited medicines optimisation technicians and assistants as we expand our ward based Medicines Optimisation Teams.

Your training opportunities will be further supported through the opportunity to undertake a fully funded Clinical Pharmacy Diploma (including Independent Prescribing qualification).

About us

Our purpose built and recently renovated pharmacy department is modern and spacious. Our automated dispensary and lean service design means you can spend your time using your clinical skills on the wards. Electronic prescribing, ordering and medicines administration is already in place, enhancing patient safety both at ward and dispensary level.

As an organisation, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust offers employees a wide range of benefits including flexible working, NHS pension scheme, generous annual leave allowance and a commitment to career development.

You will be eligible for our Blue Light Card and a wide range of NHS exclusive shopping & leisure discounts.

We are proud of our skilled, diverse workforce and as an inclusive employer we welcome applications from all backgrounds.

Working in Somerset enables you to enjoy the idyllic countryside, areas of outstanding beauty and stunning coastlines whilst still only being a stone's throw away from bustling city centres like Bristol, Bath and Exeter and only two hours away from London.

There are excellent educational facilities in the area and, when compared to other regions, house prices are reasonable.

Somerset offers the countryside and the cosmopolitan -- there is truly something for everyone!
