We are excited to be able to advertise for a permanent B7 Paediatric Audiologist at Heartlands BHH.

This is an advanced level role combining high level specialist clinical work in the areas of paediatric, diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology with managerial, supervisory and administrative duties. The post holder is required to work autonomously with the responsibility for the day to day running of the paediatric service and will deputise for the Audiology Service Leads as required. The post requires a prominent level of scientific knowledge, competent skill levels in performing diagnostic tests and rehabilitation including the fitting of hearing aids as well as effective communication skills.

All work should be carried out in a flexible, sensitive, supportive and family friendly manner as possible. Other duties include undertaking clinical supervision and training for junior staff. The post holder is expected to update their own professional knowledge.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this job include, but are not limited to carrying out behavioural and electrophysiological audiological assessment of infants and children, analyse and interpret results for correct diagnosis and management. It will involve fitting of hearing aids as well as taking care of any maintenance issues. Report writing and liaising with a multidisciplinary team will be of utmost importance. There will be a requirement to promote a learning environment within the Audiology department to encourage staff training and development and increase staff retention. As well as being involved in the organisation of audits, developing and using measures of audiological practice.

Person Specification



  • *MSc or equivalent level qualification in Audiology with Certificate of Competence in Audiology (CAC or equivalent eg STP).
  • OR
  • Audiologist with 1.1 or 2.1 BSc (Hons)/ BAAT 1+2, and post qualification experience to include paediatric audiology.
  • *Registration with (RCCP, HCPC, AHCS, HAD)


  • *Membership of BAA, BSA
  • *Post graduate management/leadership training or experience as a supervisor.
  • *Recognised Leadership Qualification



  • *Advanced knowledge and experience in paediatric audiology, including habilitation of deaf infants and children to include those with complex needs.
  • *Demonstrable experience in the relevant clinical areas and evidence of clinical competency with a complex patient caseload
  • *Specialist knowledge of routine and non-routine diagnostic / therapeutic audiological assessment procedures, their interpretation and their implications for patient management
  • *Knowledge of BSA and BAA clinical guidance and recommended procedures


  • *Experience of line managing staff.
  • *Experience in participating in clinical supervision.
  • *Knowledge of the IQIPs criteria
  • *Participation in research and development activities, including audit of clinical outcomes as required.

Additional Criteria


  • *Ability to be mobile, if required, operating across UHB sites plus potential national travel.
  • *Ability to work under pressure (emotional resilience and ability to prioritise and plan work)
  • *Good attendance record
  • *Good personal organisation skills
  • *Possess a full category B car driving licence preferably clean or with no more than a maximum of 3 points
