Ward A6 at the Wythenshawe site of Manchester Foundation trust are currently looking to recruit a second Band 7 Ward Manager to our acute surgical unit.

Our General Surgical directorate has a reputation for the highest standards of clinical care. We are looking for a suitably experienced nurse and leader who is passionate about patient safety and the delivery of exceptional quality care to patients who require emergency and elective surgery.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated individual to undertake the role of Ward Manager within Ward A6 surgical assessment unit, working along side the existing ward manager to ensure 7 day cover.

Ward A6 is a 28 bedded emergency surgical ward which delivers care to colorectal, urology, breast, max fax and ENT and orthopaedic patients. . Our key focus is to provide high quality care to our patients who are transferred directly from ED.

A successful individual must be highly motivated to take on this challenge and meet head on the pressure to maintain high standards and delivery of quality care, whilst leading the nursing team.The post holder will manage all aspects of clinical standards and professional practice within the service and will manage and coordinate staff budget resources and the environment. You will help shape future services working and supporting the Matron and Lead Nurse within the Clinical Service Unit.To apply for this post you must have substantial experience as a Band 6 with surgical experience. You must have excellent communication and strong leadership skills to uphold the standards and values of the trust.

Person Specification



  • Substantial experience at Band 6 Grade in acute hospital setting.
  • Evidence of good organisational and planning skills
  • Recent evidence of continuing professional and personal development
  • Implementation of audit / research recommendations
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Experience of change management


  • Teaching or Lecturing internal or external venues



  • Registered Practitioner on relevant part of professional register (RGN)
  • Teaching qualification
  • Educated to diploma level
  • Evidence of level 3 studies


  • Qualified in speciality Graduate
