An exciting opportunity has arisen for a candidate who is keen to develop experience in the field of pelvic health physiotherapy. This post is for up to 37.5 hours per week however there is some flexibility for negotiation of hours.

This permanent Band 6 role has been developed as part of the Cheshire and Mersey Perinatal Pelvic Health Services (PPHS) project. The aim of this project is to improve the prevention, identification, of pelvic health problems and access to pelvic health services during pregnancy and for 18 months following birth. However, the role it will also encompass all aspects of pelvic, obstetrics and gynaecology physiotherapy to offer a broad range of clinical experience. This includes perinatal group education, obstetric inpatients, management of obstetric MSK patients, women's and men's pelvic floor dysfunction and breast care. The POGP team deliver outpatient services in multiple locations including Tarporley, Ellesmere Port, Chester city centre and on the Countess of Chester Hospital site, so travel will be an integral part of this role.

Main duties of the job

Previous pelvic health experience is not essential you will work closely with the perinatal midwife. You will receive support and mentorship from senior POGP team members and partake in regular preceptorship/Clinical supervision, and in service training. There is also network and peer support across the Cheshire and Mersey region as part of the perinatal project. The team is a valued part of the wider MDT, and work closely with colorectal and urogynaecology consultants and midwifery service and breast care team.

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

  • Degree in physiotherapy or equivalent HCPC Registration
  • Relevant student training course or qualification


  • Membership of professional body



  • Substantial post-graduate experience
  • Evidence of post-graduate short courses
  • Evidence of CPD and reflective practice
  • Evidence of audit and/or research work
  • Knowledge of current best practice in specialist physiotherapy area
  • Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance
