We are seeking an Infection Prevention and Control Matron/Operational Lead . This is an exciting opportunity to have a positive impact on patient safety and experience, driving improvement across the organisation.

You will occupy a high-profile role, be readily accessible, and bear management and consultancy responsibilities for implementing the infection control strategy, while providing effective clinical leadership that supports and inspires colleagues.

The role is crucial in establishing and maintaining operational IPC assurance processes.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will serve as a vital member of the Infection Prevention and Control team (IPC) and collaborate with clinical colleagues to oversee infection control activities and implement necessary actions and changes to decrease incidence of infection.

They will provide leadership for the IPC Programme, ensuring operational service delivery across various areas.

The role involves making a substantial contribution to the initiatives led by the Chief Nurse/Director of IPC and the Deputy Director of IPC (DDIPC), aiming to improve the Trust's adherence to The Health and Social Care Act 2008.

Additionally, the role requires working in partnership with Estates and Facilities staff to ensure compliance with legislation and regulatory standards, including but not limited to Health Technical Memoranda (HTM) and Health Building Notes (HBN), in alignment with Trust Estates and Facilities protocols.

Coordinate the activities of IPC nurses in preventing, monitoring, and controlling infections across the Trust as part of the IPC team.

Offer specialized IPC guidance and knowledge to the Trust's multi-disciplinary team members

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • RGN (Level 1)
  • Relevant Qualification in Infection Prevention and Control at diploma level or above
  • Relevant degree Master's degree or equivalent level of skill acquired through experience
  • Evidence of ongoing relevant professional development
  • Formal teaching and assessing award Formal management qualification or equivalent level of skill acquired through experience.


Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Relevant and recent experience in leading the Infection Prevention and Control agenda with demonstrable success
  • Relevant experience in nursing management at Band 8a/b or above in a related field
  • Understanding of topical nursing issues
  • Ability and willingness to travel to all sites within the organisation
  • Proven record of successfully implementing change
  • Demonstrable understanding and experience of management and handling of data and information
  • Budgetary management and workforce development experience. In depth understanding and experience of clinical governance and quality management. Proven experience of leading and delivering the patient safety agenda Well-developed negotiating / influencing skills based on a thorough understanding of business principles and NHS clinical systems


Desirable

  • Awareness of political and professional agenda in nursing and NHS management
  • Demonstrable awareness of national professional and educational issues
