The post holder will, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, work towards addressing the psychological, emotional and behavioural needs of children and young people with a learning disability. They will be responsible for their caseload and supervise that of other practitioners within the service.

The post is based within East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 5 Community Nurse within the Specialist Service for Children with Learning Disabilities. The post holder must be a registered learning disability nurse with experience working with children in a community setting. The team works with children and young people with moderate to severe learning disabilities.

The Learning Disability Service is committed to providing a high quality, effective service to the population of East Lancashire. The Service provides a variety of client based assessments and interventions, training and education, strategic group and community level work.

The post holder needs to be experienced, creative and flexible in their approach, as well as highly motivated and passionate about supporting children and young people with learning disabilities and their families in a person centred and participatory manner. They will be responsible for their caseload and supervise that of other practitioners within the service.

Working days are Monday - Friday. A clean driving license and access to a car is essential as the role includes working across a range of community settings.

An enhanced DBS clearance is required.

Person Specification



  • First Level Nursing or equivalent professional qualification
  • Part 5 or 14 of NMC register


  • Degree level community nursing or willingness to undertake



  • Knowledge of national and local policy/good practice pertaining to health and social care
  • Ability to support people who have a learning disability/complex needs on an individual and group basis
  • Demonstrate good standard of verbal and written communication skills



  • Qualified RNLD
  • Experience of working in community setting
  • Working with individuals who challenge.
