With the formation of The North London Mental Health Partnership (NLMHP), Quality Improvement (QI) is at the heart of the strategic aims within our five-year strategy, and we have ambitions to become a centre of excellence with a QI academy.

The purpose of NLMHP's QI team is to support the successful delivery of the QI strategy this includes the Brilliant Basics programme as well as transformational and localised improvement initiatives, which drives sustainable improvements in quality, patient care, efficiencies, and reduced variation. The QI team provides leadership, advice, support, and training and coaching for QI throughout the Partnership.

Main duties of the job

  • Be a member of the central QI team and the wider Academy.
  • Work with the team to embed a QI culture.
  • Work within the Division of Child and Young People Mental Health Services to provide support, guidance, and expertise for QI.
  • Facilitate a number of QI projects which contribute to the achievement of the Partnership's objectives, advising staffon which tools and techniques could be utilised.
  • Participate in the delivery of training programmes and provide advice and coaching toQI practitioners and other staff based in the services.
  • Provide critical support and challenge to the clinical services to deliver, scale up and spread small changes tested in teams.
  • May represent the QI team at internal and external learning events.

The Trust reserves the right to require staff to work at such other places or locations as it considers reasonable and necessary on a temporary or permanent basis.

Person Specification



  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • QI training
  • Evidence of continuous professional development


  • Training in Quality Service Improvement and Redesign (QSIR)
  • Accredited coaching programme qualification



  • Ability to work comfortably both autonomously and collaboratively with others.
  • High level of and professional verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to use IT packages, specifically Excel to support the processing, interpreting, and presenting of data as well as Word and PowerPoint.


  • Ability to effectively manage difficult and challenging relationships, utilising a range of influencing, negotiating, facilitating and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to establish credibility and instil confidence at senior level

Knowledge and Experience


  • Worked in complex and multi-professional organisation
  • Worked with appropriate data and measures to inform work and demonstrate progress
  • Engaged and worked with multidisciplinary staff at different levels
  • Experience of using QI in a range of projects


  • Participated in audit and/or research
  • Delivered formal teaching / training sessions
  • Facilitated group discussions and effectively managed group dynamics

Personal Qualities


  • Proven ability to work under own initiative, without supervision
  • Ability to exercise initiative and high-level influence in all spheres of work
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own and others' work to meet demanding deadlines to agreed work standards



  • Be prepared to travel between sites
