This is a fantastic opportunity to work for Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust within our First Contact Physiotherapy Service working as a First Contact Physiotherapist within a Primary Care setting. We are looking for enthusiastic, appropriately experienced Physiotherapists to join our friendly, people centred, passionate team. The successful candidate will assess/triage patients within 20-minute appointments following appropriate care navigation by the GP Practice teams. The First Contact Physiotherapist will operate at an advanced level of clinical practice with skills to assess, diagnose, treat and manage musculoskeletal (MSK) problems and undifferentiated conditions.

The successful candidates will be an experienced Physiotherapist who:
  • Can evidence compliance with/ working towards the First Contact Practitioners Roadmap to Practice.
  • Displays energy and passion in the pursuit of service excellence and delivery of a positive patient experience
  • Has evidence of the development of advanced MSK assessment skills
  • Can evidence advanced MSK/Orthopaedic clinical experience and skills.


Main duties of the job

  • Takes professional responsibility as a First-Contact Physiotherapist, with high-level decision-making and clinical-reasoning skills to assess, diagnose and triage of patients (including in relation to undifferentiated conditions) - This will involve seeing patients, without prior contact with their GP, in order to establish a rapid and accurate diagnosis and management plan.
  • Streamlines pathway of care by providing a responsive service so that patients receive timely access to care
  • Ensures care is proactive, preventive in focus and population based, with an emphasis on early intervention
  • Provides care which is tailored to the individual needs. This would include, appraising the impact of individuals' clinical status on their general health, well-being, employment status (including in relation to function, physical activity, mobility and independence)
  • Supports FCP Clinical Lead and contributes to service delivery/ improvement.
  • To clinically supervise, teach, mentor and co-ordinate the work of therapists, students and other primary care staff.

We have a strong commitment to supervision, PDR, CPD, and staff training.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Post-graduate qualifications relevant to MSK & Orthopaedic speciality to Masters level or equivalent.
  • Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the county and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010
  • Working towards completion of First Contact Practitioner Roadmap Stage 1 & 2 either portfolio or HEI route


Desirable

  • Non-medical prescribing or willingness to complete
  • Membership of Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Management/leadership qualification or equivalent
  • Completed recognised IT course e.g. ECDL/Elite/MOST.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Evidence of advanced clinical reasoning skills in the assessment and management of patients in relation to NMSK conditions
  • Evidence of leadership and management expertise and knowledge acquired through CPD and experience
  • Knowledge and experience of using standardised assessments and development of relevant outcome measures
  • Demonstrates knowledge of equipment available and able to assess and fit where applicable
  • Knowledge and understanding of national legislation, guidance and regulatory framework including NSF, NICE, Information Governance, Equality and Diversity, Data Protection, Safe Guarding, Professional and Clinical Guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance and implications for service area
  • Knowledge and evidence of participation in clinical audit and evidence gathering methods
  • Evidence of continuous improvement through benchmarking and sharing and utilising best practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety in the work environment and implications for service area
  • Awareness and understanding of relevant health and Social Care legislation.


Desirable

  • Evidence of utilising systems of performance management
  • Membership of Regional /National Specialist groups/forums.
  • Research and/or publications or contributions to.
