We are seeking Band 5 Occupational Therapists to join our rotation, interested in developing their career in Carmarthenshire. West Wales is a leading example of an integrated rural healthcare model and offers excellent opportunities to develop your skills in many areas of practice. Our rotations are every 6 months giving opportunities more regularly to learn new skills and be part of supportive and friendly teams.

Carmarthenshire is an area of outstanding natural beauty with access to a wide variety of outdoor activities and cultural events, but also close to the M4.

We can offer you experience in a wide variety of clinical areas, with options of rotational posts in specialties including:
  • Medicine/frailty
  • Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • Acute Mental Health
  • Mental Health Commissioning
  • Intermediate Care
  • stroke - supporting acute and community
  • Community
  • Front of House

Mileage expenses are payable, and pool cars available.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to work as part of a team to deliver high quality, evidence based and person centred occupational therapy, supporting our integrated model of care focused on enabling people to engage in meaningful occupations.

You will have the support of an occupational therapy team, with opportunities to develop your practice and skills in a variety of areas.We are a learning organisation and value supervision and continued professional development.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:

Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest

Person Specification

Qualfications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Knowledge of relevant current health and social care legislation applicable to role
  • Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office software.
  • Understanding of the roles of other staff groups in health and social care.
  • Awareness of clinical governance, including research and audit methodology.
  • Awareness of relevant outcome measures to demonstrate effectiveness.


Desirable

  • Knowledge of other services that link across primary/secondary/intermediate care
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic equipment.
  • Knowledge of Health Board and priorities.
  • Knowledge of a range of rehabilitation interventions across all therapies.


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in therapy or other relevant field, which may include practice education, voluntary or paid employment.
  • Working with a variety of people with differing needs.
  • Managing a caseload
  • Working as part of a team
  • Direct involvement with carers and families
  • Self-development and application of learning
  • Use of adapted techniques for improving patient outcomes
