An exciting opportunity has arisen for the positions of Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) for anaesthetics and Registered General Nurse (RGN) for scrub and circulating duties within the General Surgery speciality at Kings Mill Hospital.

We are seeking enthusiastic and dynamic individuals to join our well-established team of practitioners who, principally, possess experience in General Surgery scrub and circulating duties and anaesthetics. Kings Mill Hospital boasts 14 operating theatres, with an additional 3 at Newark, along with a minor operations suite. Our areas of coverage encompass various specialities including Obstetrics, Emergencies, Upper GI, Vascular, Breast, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, General, Colorectal, Orthopaedics, and Gynaecology. Your responsibilities will also include attending resuscitation calls, ECT lists, cardioversion lists, and intra/inter-hospital transfers. On occasion, you may be asked to work at our Newark Hospital site.

Moreover, staff development is a top priority for us. You will collaborate closely with the Clinical Education Department Leader to facilitate training in accordance with NMC/HCP standards and codes. This ensures that competency packs and our skills matrix remain current and up to date.

Main duties of the job

  • Access, plan, implement and evaluate holistic, high quality and individualised care which respects patient personal dignity and beliefs
  • Maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff
  • Maintain and promote effective communication within the care team and with colleagues, patients' relatives and visitors
  • Act as a mentor to students, including teaching and assessing, within their realm of competence, upholding the philosophy of evidence-based practice
  • Maintain a professional profile and develop skills, knowledge and competencies adhering to the NMC code of professional conduct and Trust policies and procedures
  • Act as a patient advocate

Be aware of the responsibilities of all employees to maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors and other staff members

Person Specification



  • Evidence of good communication skills with clear written and oral skills.
  • Evidence of effective organisation abilities and supervisory skills



  • 1 st level NMC Registered Nurse or HCPC registered ODP at either degree or diploma level
  • Clear evidence of Continued professional development.


  • Anaesthetic module for registered RGN's

Further Training


  • Diploma or degree in operating department practice
  • Degree level Registered Nurse


  • Evidence of personal and professional development



  • Experience in the peri-operative environment


  • Mentorship or an equivalent qualification
  • Dual role - Anaesthetics and scrub



  • Ability to work across sites when necessary
  • Ability to contribute to the on-call rota and work unsociable hours
  • Adhere to the NMC code or the HCPC conduct, performance, and ethics standard
