We are seeking a proactive and motivated individual who is looking to develop their career in corporate governance within the NHS.

Working in a small and busy team the post holder will support the Deputy Company Secretary and Company Secretary to provide corporate governance support to Board Committees, sub-groups of the Trust's Executive Directors, Care Group Boards, and other groups as required.

The vacancy would suit candidates with a strong governance and administration background. Excellent written, organisational, interpersonal and communication skills are essential plus an ability to deal with highly sensitive and confidential information. Previous experience of meeting administration is required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide support to key corporate meetings of the trust, which may include board committees, executive director meetings, care group meetings and other sub-groups as required. This work will primarily include:
  • The development of annual work programmes.
  • Preparation of agendas, in liaison with the Chair and the collation and distribution of papers, in accordance with Standing Orders.
  • Preparation of reports, including committee reports to the board, annual committee reports and contribution to the trust annual report.
  • Attendance at meetings to produce formal minutes, which meet the requirements of guidance issued by the Chartered Governance Institute.
  • Maintaining action logs ensuring, that issues and risks are escalated within the corporate governance structure.
  • Complying with systems and processes to manage the statutory records of the Trust.
  • Contributing to the wider work of the team, including mentoring and support to Corporate Governance Officers.


About us

The post holder will be part of a small friendly team working within the Company Secretary department, which provides high quality and responsive support across the Trust's governance structure.

The post is a part time, permanent contract of 2 days per week.

The team are currently based at West Park Hospital but work in an agile/hybrid way. The post holder would be expected to travel to meetings throughout the trust area.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level


Desirable

  • Management or governance qualification


Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of Corporate Governance
  • Understanding of the law and practice of meetings
  • Advanced use of a range of computer software e.g. all Office365 applications and virtual meeting apps
  • Knowledge of data manipulation and reporting on findings in a clear and concise manner


Desirable

  • An understanding of NHS regulatory and governance frameworks (including those specific to NHS Foundation Trusts)


Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working within the NHS or other regulated sector
  • Experience of supporting Boards and Committees in a complex governance and regulatory environment
  • Experience of managing complex arrangements to a high degree of accuracy, timeliness and effectiveness
  • Experience of managing and maintaining databases and monitoring systems
  • Experience in negotiating, influencing and a proven ability to deal with conflict and resolution


Desirable

  • Previous experience servicing formal Board, Committees, working groups in a large and/or complex organisation
  • Experience of front-line contact with the general public.
