The Cardiology Directorate at the Trust, covering Heartlands, Solihull & Good Hope sites, liaising with the community heart failure services, has the opportunity to offer exciting ways of working for Cardiology Nurses who are able to work autonomously within the Heart Failure Nurse Team. This post is to cover the GH/BH/SH sites.

We currently have a full time Band 7 post, providing an opportunity for Heart Failure Specialists who are able to use their extensive cardiac nursing knowledge and skills, to deliver a high standard of autonomous practice to patients who have presented with acute or chronic heart failure conditions. The post holder will join an established team who are responsible for providing a prompt review of patients admitted with heart failure and improve/support the management of these patients journey during their hospital stay. The team also support outpatients, providing phone call reviews including post discharge phone calls to promote admission avoidance, counselling and supporting patients pre and post device insertion and face to face clinics.

An excellent communicator, able to drive and manage change, you will have at least 3 years recent clinical experience, of which 2 years needs to be at Band 6 within cardiology or heart failure. Clinical Health Assessment Skills and Non -- medical prescribing are essential and relevant Heart Failure qualifications are desirable.

Person Specification



  • Registered Adult / Child Nurse on the NMC Register (Field dependent upon role )
  • Evidence of post registration CPD / Post registration qualification in ( appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to degree / masters level equivalent FHEQ Level 6 /7
  • Recognised mentorship course



  • Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
  • Significant years post registration experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at B6 or above in defined or associated speciality
  • Extensive experience of working autonomously at a specialist level
  • Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
  • Experience and enthusiasm for developing educational programmes and teaching / assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
  • Experience of patient service user advocacy role
