An exciting opportunity for two full time motivated and focused Assistant General Managers to join the Head & Neck Directorate at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.

You will work in partnership with the General Manager and Deputy General Managers to support both the Ophthalmology & ENT Services to deliver and achieve activity targets against national requirements as well as supporting quality improvements across a range of areas.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will include working in partnership with the General Manager and Deputy General Managers in providing leadership to the development of pathways, overseeing daily activities, and managing and delivering high quality, responsive and effective services in line with the Trust's strategic direction.

Qualification / Experience


  • Degree or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of further personal development



  • Able to manage budgets and deliver on targets.
  • Able to support and deliver Cost Improvement programmes.
  • Supports and encourages budget holders to understand and make efficient and effective use of financial resources.
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to organise people and staff to ensure the service within area of responsibility is delivered to the required standards and targets.
  • Understands and is able to use informal persuasion and provision of information, to influence others
  • Ability to prioritise the key tasks to reflect & deliver the needs of the service.
  • Ability to analyse and validate data, identify trends and take action.
  • Ability to work actively, systematically and collaboratively with others to identify service efficiency and quality improvements, assess options and risks, reach decisions, develop plans for achievement, implement and evaluate.
  • Plans collaboratively with others, co-ordinates and monitors the delivery of services and/or projects with clear quality indicators and timescales.


  • Recent management experience in an acute hospital.
  • Experience of managing projects, within constraints and on time
  • Experience of the management of change.

Experience and Knowledge


  • Managerial experience within a healthcare or similar setting, ideally in an acute setting.
  • Evidence of innovation and achievement in management practice.
  • IT and computer literacy
  • Keeps abreast of national and local developments in health and social care


  • Evidence of successful involvement in production of clear business cases.
  • Awareness and understanding of national policy concerning patient care and developments within the NHS including current developments concerning national plans.
  • Knowledge of Patient Management Systems and tracking system to manage patients on the waiting list.
