SPECIALIST CAMHS CLINICIAN CAMHS-CDC LINK CLINICIAN (NDT) based in Bedford and Luton CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Team.

We are really pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our Neuro-developmental team in Bedfordshire CAMHS services. We are looking for two band 6 clinicians [nurse (RMN, RNLD), clinical psychologist family therapist, social worker or other relevantly registered mental health professional] to join our well established multi-disciplinary Team. We are a team that prides itself on creative, innovative and evidenced based approaches to our work with service users and carers and value a supportive and reflective culture in the work environment.

Main duties of the job

The team is part of Bedfordshire CAMHS, which is a large, dynamic and successful CAMHs service comprising of 4 emotional and behavioural teams, a LAC team, a CAMHs schools' team, a parent-infant psychotherapy team, a paediatric team, a GP team, an adolescent mental health team, a crisis team and an eating disorders service. We also have embedded workers in Early Help, schools and social care. We offer regular opportunities for staff to undertake individualised CPD, and we provide opportunities for staff wishing to act up into more senior roles on occasion.

Bedfordshire CAMHs has a thriving service-user participation group which meets regularly to consider service development initiatives. The successful applicant would have the opportunity to join in a number of quality improvement projects.

Job description Job responsibilities

This post-holder will provide a specialist service within CAMHS to children, young people and their families in the Luton/South Bedfordshire area. The post will be based partly within our Childrens Development Centre (CDC) in Luton or in Kempston will be expected to liaise closely with our colleagues in the CDC Paediatric Team and work alongside them. They will also work with our well-established CAMHS Neurodevelopmental team based at Charter House (Luton).

The successful specialist clinician will offer assessments, treatments, peer supervision and consultation/ training. There will be scope to develop areas of specialist practice through further training. The team also works with young people with neurodevelopmental disorders, and the successful applicant will be required to either have experience of, or to be willing to be trained in, administering ADOS assessments.

The successful post-holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team. The post-holder will require a large degree professional autonomy and self-management and will be required to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential
  • Qualification in appropriate mental health profession such as Nursing, Systemic Psychotherapy, Clinical/Educational Psychology, Child Psychotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work and registration with relevant UK governing body.
  • Qualifications/ training in specialist skills e.g. systemic therapies, neuropsychology, CBT, Evidence based parent training programs, group work
Experience Essential
  • Working with children and young people with complex mental health needs
  • Experience of group work
  • Experience of working with a wide range of CAMHS problems
  • Experience working with schools in mental health capacity
  • Previous experience of specialist assessments and interventions for NDV e.g. ADHD and ASD
Skills Essential
  • Evidence of well developed clinical skills and knowledge in CAMHS
  • Skilled in emergency and crisis assessments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Teaching skills, both in clinical setting and education centres
  • Computer skills, including Excel
  • Specific training in NDV assessment and treatment protocols e.g. ADOS, 3Di, neuropsychology
Knowledge Essential
  • A high degree of self-awareness and an ability to reflect on personal and professional attitudes and accept feedback
  • A developed knowledge of NDV eg. ADHD and ASD
  • Specific knowledge of pertinent issues for CAMHS
  • In depth knowledge of CAMHS issues including assessment and interventions
  • Knowledge of the Children's Act and other appropriate legislation
  • Knowledge of development in inter agency partnership
Other Essential
  • Proven qualities in sustaining the mental, emotional and physical demands of specialized therapeutic work with disturbed and distressed children, adolescents and their families/carer networks.
  • Self motivated, assertive and flexible
