This post is based at the NKPS Hub Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust site We are pleased to seek applications and expressions of interest for the position: IMT Operations Manager, Band 8a Full Time 37.5 hrs per week

North Kent Pathology provides Pathology services across Dartford & Gravesham and Medway Maritime Foundation acute Trusts and a greater requirement for Pathology services across the local communities within Dartford, Medway, Swale and parts of Bexley.

North Kent Pathology Service is offering a permanent position opportunity for an experienced IMT leader to take up the position of IMT Operations Manager. This pivotal role will support the Pathology service in the delivery of optimal IMT service functions, proactively to determine the best use of systems ensuring clinical safety at all times across the sites, and support the transition to the new Laboratory Information System (LIMS).

Main duties of the job

It is envisaged that this role will provide critical support to the management of the IMT Pathology function and to support clinical systems development and lead in the planning of IM& T developments that most appropriately meet the needs of patients and achieve the maximum service return on the resources invested.

Additionally, it is expected that the post holder will provide leadership and direction to the IM& T team for the transformation aspects of service across the acute Trusts and Integrated Care System, such as the implementation of the new Network wide LIMS,As well as the LIMS project the post holder will be responsible for a range of delegated projects, and operational areas in order to ensure the smooth running of the business and contribute to the delivery of optimal Pathology services. The post holder will be based at the NKPS Hub, which is at Dartford, however the post holder will have a portfolio that spans across all sites serviced by NKPS, which include both Dartford and Medway laboratories.

Additionally, the post holder will be required to input directly to services based at Queen Mary Hospital, and potentially across the Integrated Care System, that incorporates General Practices and Gravesend Community Hospital. It is also essential for the post holder to work collaboratively as part of a dynamic team delivering an effective service, supporting teams across the Pathology Service to reach their potential.

Key elements of the role will include transformation across the wider Kent and Medway Pathology Network to enable harmonisation of the testing pathways and allied working. The network includes Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and East Kent University Hospitals, as well as Darent Valley and Medway Maritime hospitals.

Person Specification

Education and Training

Essential

  • 1 ST Degree in relevant subject or demonstrable equivalent practice & experience.
  • IBMS post -graduate Specialist Diploma or further knowledge acquired through training and practical experience to post-graduate diploma level or equivalent.
  • Master's Degree or assessed equivalent level of knowledge and expertise in a BMS speciality.
  • Registered Biomedical Scientist with the Health and care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Demonstration of Continuing Professional Development at agreed level of participation.


Desirable

  • CIPD
  • IOSH


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Extensive post-registration practical experience of working in relevant Pathology discipline in a busy laboratory environment. Sound basic knowledge in other areas of Pathology
  • To have an extensive knowledge of routine and specialised analytical methods, quality assurance and problem solving.
  • Demonstrable experience: Supervising/managing staff at all levels across various staff groups.
  • Well-developed clinical awareness within and beyond the context of own speciality.
  • To have knowledge of managerial processes within the Trust and NHS. Good awareness of Trust Policies and procedures and how they relate to the staff and service of the department.
  • Extensive knowledge of national professional and NHS guidelines relating to service provision and quality.


Desirable

  • Extensive experience of Team Management and senior leadership.
  • Audit and research experience - operational and academic.


Experience

Essential

  • To have completed a significant period in post as a Registered Biomedical scientist / Clinical Scientist
  • Able to perform staff training and ensuring compliance with professional standards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective Pathology networks with internal and external colleagues.
  • Experience of assay validation, verification and troubleshooting
  • Interpretation and troubleshooting of IQC and EQA.


Desirable

  • Experience of change management within complex organisation.
