Bedfordshire Community Therapy Service (BCHS) is looking for a full time Occupational Therapist to support individuals within the Discharge to Assess Beds (D2A), Inpatient Rehabilitation Beds( IPR) and within their own place of residency within the community (home).

Main duties of the job

- Responsible for carrying out assessments, interventions and rehabilitation programs to promote an individual's safety and independence with support from senior staff.

- Develop confidence to identify concerns or risks that would impede an individual's safe discharge to their place of residency after a hospital admission or a short stay within a D2A or IPR Bed. Using problem solving skills, clinical judgement and collaborative working with system partners to resolve the concerns for the benefit of the client.

- Provide advice, equipment and evaluations based on a client's individual needs.

- To be responsible for a caseload which is safely prioritised with clear review plans in place.

- Experience dependent - To work as an autonomous professional according to the Royal College of Occupational Therapy (RCOT) and the Health and Care Professions Council's (HPCP) regulations.

- To work efficiently as part of a multi-disciplinary team and communicate confidently, asking for support where required.

Job responsibilities

This role requires you to travel across the county, you will require a full UK drivers License and access to a vehicle. This role is part of a 7 day service via a rota and so flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays is also required.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

  • HCPC registered Occupational Therapist
  • Grad. Diploma and / or degree in Occupational Therapy


Desirable

  • Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists


Experience

Essential

  • Range of clinical interventions and assessments related to adults in the community
  • Use of SOAP notes documentation
  • Willing to give presentations/lead teaching sessions for colleagues
  • IT Skills (word, e-mail, excel, virtual platforms)


Desirable

  • Community setting experience
  • Experience of working within the NHS


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge and understanding of mental health conditions that affect physical conditions
  • Knowledge of conditions relating to clients
  • Evidence of relevant continuing professional development undertaken during university or on placements
  • Desire to expand knowledge and skills
  • Clear, concise verbal communication


Desirable

  • An understanding of the changes within the NHS and possible impact on occupational therapy service
