An experienced and acute physiotherapist is required to jointly lead and manage the Medical Physio Team at EGH

Applicants should have notable acute experience, including the advanced management of respiratory patients both on general wards and in critical care including the altered airway also the assessment, management, rehabilitation and discharge planning of both simple and complex ward based patients.

Main duties of the job

In addition to managing own caseload of patients applicants will be expected to provide both clinical and managerial supervision to team members, participate in the appraisal system and to organise and contribute to training . A key objective will be to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the team including the prioritisation and management of team caseloads and the organisation and day to day running of weekend and on-call rotas.

Applicants should have good communication and leadership skills, be willing and able to assist with problem solving, and motivate their team during a difficult period. Excellent MDT working, to optimise patient outcomes and timely discharge, is also key to this role, both regarding the postholder's own caseload and overseeing / facilitating junior team members to achieve this.

Supported in this role by an acute therapies manager, and by a peer team lead, this will be an excellent opportunity to gain experience leading a small team.

Person Specification



  • Degree / equivalent diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Current HCPC registered


  • CSP/ specialist group registered



  • Broad range of rehabilitation experience
  • Previous acute respiratory experience at band 6 level
  • Experience of staff and student supervision and clinical education
  • Experience of teaching

Skills and Abilities


  • Demonstrates advanced clinical reasoning in own practice and facilitates clinical reasoning in others
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to manage own time for both clinical and managerial responsibilities



  • Experience of managing Critical Care including weaning plans
