Oncology Outpatients is being transformed and is a dynamic and innovative place to work. We cater for a number of specialities such as Radiotherapy, Oncologist & medical oncologist, Haematologists, Speech & Language, Dietician, and many different cancers

Maidstone Oncology Outpatients is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated registered nurse to join our friendly and supportive team. Our focus is on ensuring that our patients receive high quality care quickly, in clean and comfortable surroundings. Your days will be varied, offering support to clinicians and patients across all clinics, providing support, motivation and training to staff and you will have responsibility of ensuring the smooth running of the department when required. Your skills and expertise will be valued.

You will be supported by a management team who are present and visible and will develop your skills and help you reach your full potential.

Main duties of the job

We are a fast paced, forward-thinking team, with patient care at the heart of everything we do. You will work within the existing established teams to provide outstanding clinical care and ongoing support for patients undergoing treatment for cancer.

Main duties and roles consist of supporting outpatient clinics, one-stop and Sunday supportive SACT Clinic. Additional specialist roles within unit will include PICC,Port management, specialising in Head and neck clinics, breast and urology and unit continues to develop within its speciality

Job responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.

You will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.netif this is problematic)and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

  • RN
  • Diploma
  • Degree
  • Teaching/Mentorship qualification e.g. ENB 998 or equivalent



  • Experience in haematology and or oncology
  • IV cannulation & venepuncture skills


  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS
  • IV drug therapy



  • Good communication skills, verbal and written
  • Evidence of problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Adaptable and flexible Ability to be reflective, accept criticism and act constructively
  • Cannulation, Venipuncture


  • Intravenous drug administration skills
  • Port a caths, and PICC
  • Involvement in standard setting and audit
  • Computer/IT skills
