As Bereavement and Medical Examiner Officer , you role will be to work closely with the Medical Examiner reviewing cases with the clinical team, providing advice and support to Doctors regarding the legal requirements relating to the certification of death, including referral to HM Coroner.

You'll be the first point of contact for bereaved relatives or carers, providing advice and support regarding the ME process, coronial referrals, cause of death, registration of death and signposting for ongoing emotional support.

You'll also need to listen to and respond to questions or concerns, raised by staff and the bereaved, about the care or circumstances of death and highlight these concerns to the ME and Learning from Deaths.

The service works across 2 sites, Musgrove Park Hospital and Yeovil Hospital. Although this position will be based in Musgrove, there may be times where working on the Yeovil site is required.

This is a challenging but rewarding role which combines some clinical knowledge, skilled communication and IT skills.

Main duties of the job

Day to day, you'll answer telephone calls and emails from the bereaved, doctors, funeral directors and varying stakeholders. The role requires you to show compassion and empathy whilst communicating sensitive clinical information and offer practical support to both the bereaved and also to professionals.
