Work in the team to run joint and nurse led clinics in conjunction with the Paediatric Allergy Specialist Nurse and Consultant colleagues, to offer the highest level of care to the patient caseload. The role will provide support and advice via different means of technology and expected to provide support in relation to management of allergy conditions pertinent to children and young people including transition support and will be expected to provide clinical and educational support to staff within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

Support and independently run allergy clinics with teaching sessions for families, children, young people.

Carry out relevant testing including skin testing, bloods tests and food challenges.

With support of consultant and dietetic team support food avoidance and reintroduction plans.

Job responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Paediatric Allergy Specialist Nurse, assess children and young peoples health and wellbeing needs in relation to Allergy. This involves taking a focused clinical history and selecting, performing and interpreting allergy tests using specific IgE and skin prick testing. Plan and deliver programmes to address children and young peoples changing health and wellbeing needs in relation to Allergy.

Support the development, implementation, evaluation of care and the setting of standards for patients with Allergy in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team using research and evidence based plans.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Ability to teach individuals and groups of staff and families including adolescence
  • Knowledge of eczema care, allergic triggers, allergies and avoidance strategies
  • Competent with IT skills
  • Ability to work independantly and alongside a MDT


Desirable

  • Has undertaken additional learning to increase knowledge in allergy
  • Skill in phlebotomy desirable
  • Committed to developing role as specialist nurse


Personal Attributes

Essential

  • Acts on own initiative and problem solves utilizing resources


Experience

Essential

  • At least 2 years relevant post registration experience in Paediatric nursing at Band 6
  • Experience in nursing patients with allergies
  • In depth knowledge of child protection
  • Experience in managing own patient workload


Desirable

  • Previous band 6 experience
