Main duties of the job

You will be working predominantly core hours but will be required to be flexible to meet the needs of the service. This includes both radiology and cardiology.

The post holder will be required to be on the 24/7 PPCI on call rota. There is a requirement to be less than 30 minutes from the hospital to do this. (An on call room is available, which has to be booked in advance).

Job responsibilities

We have an exciting opportunity at the Royal Berkshire with specialities in cardiology for radiographers if you want to develop your career in a new direction or for a change of scene.

The Royal Berkshire Hospital is looking for a skilled and dedicated Radiographer to join our Radiology and Cardiology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a range of diagnostic imaging procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. You will be expected to work closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care, while maintaining accurate records and adhering to all relevant safety and ethical standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures such as X-rays, cardiac imaging using C-arm, ensuring that the highest quality images are produced.
  • Provide care, support and reassurance to patients during procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, explaining procedures and answering any questions they may have.
  • Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including radiologists, Cardiologists, doctors, nurses and support staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.
  • Maintain accurate records of all procedures performed and patient information in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Keep up-to-date with new developments and techniques in Radiography, ensuring that best practices are maintained.
  • Ensure that all equipment is in good working order and report any faults or issues to the Radiology Manager.
  • Adhere to all relevant safety and ethical standards and regulations, including radiation safety guidelines and patient confidentiality policies.
  • Assist with the training and development of junior staff, as required.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • Degree in Radiography or equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Radiographer.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic imaging techniques, including X-ray, and C-arm.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).

Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 years' experience in diagnostic Radiography.
  • Experience working in a hospital environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of PACS and RIS systems is an advantage.

Working Conditions:
  • This is a full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week and on-call commitment on top
  • The role involves exposure to radiation, and appropriate protective clothing and equipment will be provided.
  • The job may require standing for long periods, and candidates should be physically fit and able to carry out these tasks.
