An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse or Social Worker within the Perinatal team. This is a Band 6 post, however a Band 5/6 development post would also be considered. This is a full time position based in Boston, covering Boston, Spalding, the East Coast & Louth.

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic, confident mental health nurse or social worker who has a passion for working closely with families & women in the perinatal period who are either pregnant or up to 24 months post-natal.

Experience of working with families with severe mental illness and complex social care needs is essential.

The successful candidate will manage a caseload of women with varying mental health needs. They will work alongside the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality evidence based care.

Experience of working in a community team is desirable.

A six week induction will be provided and there are opportunities available to access training to support the development of your knowledge and skills in this area. Induction will include shadowing experienced members of the team and you will receive regular clinical, managerial and team supervision.

Main duties of the job

Mental Health Nurse:

The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of care needs, assessment, planning, and implementation of evidence based care to a defined group of service users and their carers within the service catchment area whilst under the guidance of senior staff. The post holder will provide professional advice and support to other agencies and members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Social Worker:

As a social worker you will develop your core skills towards becoming a more competent practitioner within a specialist service through the guidance of the National and Local competency frameworksTo participate in and provide management, leadership and supervision for more junior staffTo contribute positively to multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team work

Person Specification



  • Social Work Qualification, eg: C.S.S., C.Q.S.W., Dip/SW, Degree in Social Work or equivalent qualification in Social Work OR RVN or RNLD or RN: 1 st Level Registration (NMC) or degree or equivalent.
  • Currently registered with HCPC Or Currently Registered Nurse
  • Willingness to undertake Practice teacher training and work or ENB998 / FliPS or equivalent
  • PQ Consolidation module or equivalent.
  • Must be Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Evidence of specialised continued professional training (degree level) in clinical practice


  • Management/leadership training



  • Relevant knowledge/experience of Perinatal Mental Health assessment and care planning
  • Experience of working with individuals in crisis in an inpatient or community setting
  • Experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental illnesses
  • Post- qualifying experience in mental health and working with families.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues and legislation relating to mental health
  • Experience in carrying out comprehensive mental health and risk assessments and providing subsequent psychosocial interventions
  • Experience of own caseload management
  • Experience of supervision and training of junior, learners and unqualified staff


  • Previous experience of working with women whose pregnancy or postnatal period is complicated by serious mental illness in any setting



  • Possesses good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrates a reflective and self-critical approach to clinical work
  • Excellent engagement skills through assertive outreach principles
  • Sound knowledge of national agenda for mental health.
  • Highly developed clinical reasoning skills.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and understanding of Information Governance principles.
  • Delegation whilst maintaining overall responsibility for patients care, where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead a clinical team.
  • Highly motivated & able to engage with service users & carers to improve outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and collectively.

  • Ability to travel independently throughout the county without the use of public transport
