Band 6 - Senior Staff Nurse

The Battle Day Unit (BDU) have an exciting full time opportunity for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team working to improve the safety, experience and outcomes for infusion patients in Royal Berkshire Hospital. This post offers the opportunity to have a real impact on the independence and confidence in patients in Royal Berkshire. A passion for admission prevention is a must for this position.

The BDU works closely with Rheumatology, Gastro(IBD), Neurology, Oncology, Hematology, Endocrine, and Renal Teams providing a varied work experience for the successful candidate.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is an experienced nurse who, acting within his / her professional boundaries, provides care for the presenting patient, from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care. He / she is able to work autonomously but within Trust and NMC policies, protocols and guidelines, demonstrating safe, clinical decision-making, high levels of critical thinking and holistic practice. The post holder works with lead Clinicians, and care group managers to set and deliver the strategic vision of the service, and to provide specialist education and training for staff, student, PA and patients. To support the Ward manager in her absence and to provide strong leadership and effective consultancy for the BDUnursing and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Education and Experience


  • Registered Nurse
  • Resuscitation ILS
  • Mentorship
  • Evidence of recent clinical practice in specialist area/ evidence of recent appropriate experience
  • Significant post registration experience


  • Chemo Course
  • History taking, Assessment and Diagnostics module

Skills and Abilities


  • Excellent interpersonal skills with particular ability to liaise effectively with multidisciplinary team members
  • Ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise
  • Demonstrates excellent team working
  • Computer Literacy


  • Experience of involvement in successful change management
  • Recent clinical experience in related client group
