An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Clinical Psychologist / Neuropsychologist to join a well-established neuropsychology department based in the Atkinson Morley Neuroscience Centre, St George's Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic clinician to deliver evidence based assessment, intervention and consultation for people with neurological disease and / or injury. This is a permanent position.

The successful candidate will need a doctorate level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent), and ideally additional qualifications in neuropsychology (i.e. QICN) or equivalent experience to obtain registration on the BPS Specialist Register in Clinical Neuropsychology.

The role is to provide highly specialist clinical neuropsychology input to patients within the out-patient neuro diagnostic service (mainly aimed for patients who fall under Cognitive Neurology and General Neurology). This will include neuropsychological assessments, as well as providing highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy and offering advice and consultation on clients' psychological care to other health professionals and non professional carers.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Neuropsychologist is a key and highly valued member of the St Georges Neuropsychology department. The post holder will have highly specialist knowledge and experience in diagnostic neuropsychological assessment and neuro-rehabilitation as well as experience in supervising and training junior members of the team.

The post holder will exercise autonomous professional responsibility for clinical decisions, working within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the teams' policies and procedures. In liaison with the senior clinical psychologists/ neuropsychologists, the post holder will be expected to utilise their knowledge of evidence based psychological assessment, interventions and research skills to further develop neuropsychology and clinical psychology input to these services. The post holder will also be expected to identify and implement audit and research projects within the area served by the team/service. The post holder will be involved in the training, continuing professional development and supervision of trainee clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists and other health professionals.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology,


Desirable

  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
  • Membership of the British Psychological Society
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist neuropsychological and psychological assessment and treatment of clients
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity


Desirable

  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
  • Experience of the application of neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation


Knowledge

Essential

  • Doctoral level knowledge or equivalent of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis


Desirable

  • Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised neuropsychological interventions


Skills

Essential

  • Skills in the use of complex methods of neuropsychological and psychological assessment
