With 19000 University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) colleagues and 100,000s of Visitors & Patients, the Impact of Travel across the UHL portfolio is considerable. Development and ownership of the Strategy associated to getting Colleagues, Patients & Visitors to and from the UHL mindful of clinical efficiency as well as sustainability.

The Head of Travel holds the responsibility as the owner of the UHL Travel publications, management review and implementation of the associated objectives. Supported operationally by the Travelwise Manager.

  • Travel & Parking Strategy
  • Travel Plan
  • Travel Action Plan.
  • NHS England 'Net Zero' Travel & Transport Strategy.

Communication and engagement is crucial in the development the Travel needs for the UHL. The role will include, development of Leicester City Council (LCC) engagement, delivery services such as public transport network and provisions. Ownership of Service delivery Partnerships such as third-party services associated to travel management.

Delivery of Internal network groups as well as links with NHS England travel Groups

Main duties of the job

  • Production, Governance, and control of the UHL outcomes from the NHS England 'Net Zero' Travel & Transport Strategy, the localised needs within the Travel & Parking Strategy and the Travel (Action) Plan via regular monitoring and audit.
  • Provide ongoing governance, review, and audit of delivery against the documents mentioned.
  • Utilise technology where possible in delivery of solutions as well as monitoring and auditing. Utilise this data to make Continual Process Development.
  • Framework, objectives and outcomes owner for the travel Intranet and Internet environments
  • Provide Leadership support to the Head of Sustainability in the impact and needs of the above documents as well as potential updates within the UHL leadership team.
  • Provide the tools to enable the working with the Travelwise Manager to spread the sustainable travel objectives with publicity, seminar, awareness, and educational events. Control, Monitor and Audit the output.
  • Work within the E& F Heads of Sustainability & Waste Team to understand the cross-team activities.
  • Work as the travel objectives owner within the Car Park Strategy Group (CPSG), and the strategic owner of external influences such as the LCC requirements when considering sustainable travel across the UHL for colleagues, Patients & Visitors alike.
  • Act as the Spokesperson for the UHL across NHS engagement outside the UHL, such as travel under the NHS England banner.

Job responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in owning the Travel & Parking Strategy Golden Rules, blueprint, andMatrixes with the Capital Projects teams as well as UHL E& F Leadership.
  • Express a risk based approach to inclusion / omission of Sustainable travel needs and the impact when developing future clinical and non-clinical capital solutions within the UHL.
  • Provide a proactive engagement with CMGs to understand colleague as well as importantly

    patient & visitor travel needs. Establish a risk register to support the bespoke CMG needs.
  • Awareness and engagement within NHS England of the requirements of the NHS EnglandNet Zero Travel & Transport Strategy.
  • Keep abreast of NHS England, wider service providers and consultants supporting the NHS Sustainable Travel needs, Including awareness, process, services, and technology.
  • Work proactively in the awareness of challenges with stakeholders and their non travelrelated primary objectives.
  • Develop Structured communications links for both the Head of Travel and the Travel wise Manager. For internal and external client groups. Establish clear performance outcomes andobjectives for this.
  • To ensure the requirements of the Trusts Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions

    are met within all areas of the post holders duties.
  • To pro-actively search for opportunities for cost improvements in all areas of responsibility.
