An exciting opportunity has arisen for a business manager to join our team within the Integrated Community Paediatric Services, based at the Ipswich Child Development Centre in Ipswich.

The role will provide a comprehensive, and effective business management service to the Medical Team and corporate administration functions for paediatric services in the East Locality. The post holder with take responsibility for the management and safe running of the base at St Helen's House, ensuring health and safety compliance is maintained. The post holder will act as primary point of contact for other agencies and services contacting the paediatric services in the east.

Previous experience working within children's services would be an advantage however experience in managing teams and a can do attitude is of more importance.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be managing a team of medical secretaries and administration support staff, undertaking direct line management, appraisals and recruitment to support the paediatricians and wider clinical teams to deliver specialist care in the community.

Regular review of building compliance and systems will also be key within the role with the candidate maintaining risk registers and taking responsibility for the safe running of the building.

Communicating with parents and families as a primary point of contact for paediatric or general enquiries regarding service access and to enable appropriate response or signposting to support.

Monitoring paediatric waiting times and reporting to operational management team to ensure efficient allocation of resources.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications


  • NVQ 2 or 3 Business/administration or equivalent level of experience
  • Level 2 First Line Management Certificate
  • RSA 111
  • Audio typing
  • Health and Safety at work qualification or experience
  • Project Management qualification (eg Prince)

Experience and knowledge


  • Previous NHS experience
  • HR matters to include recruitment, sickness management, grievance
  • Proven management experience including staff appraisal
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Able to relate to partner organisations and develop networks
  • Work autonomously
  • Ability to negotiate regarding Estates management
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • Ability to determine priorities and work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
