We are seeking a proactive , dynamic individual who is a strong advocate and has expert experience / or relevant similar work experience in Patient Safety, to join the Trust wide Patient Safety Team as a Patient Safety Incident Response lead (Band 7 AFC) as part of a job share for 0.4 (15 hours per week) for a 12 month period. This role will be a job share with the existing Insight Team lead while they undertake a secondment and as such we are seeking a highly adaptable team player who is able to ensure that processes are in place that ensures continuity of the role. As a key member of the Corporate Patient Safety Insight Team at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation trust you will contribute to effective leadership, expert advice and meaningful assurance to the Trust committees and Trust board. The post-holder will assist in the planning and implementation of a strategic framework for continuous improvements for the safety of patients through quality improvement priorities. The priorities of which for 2024/25 will be the continued embedding of the principles of the new Patient Safety Strategy, which will include the further development of the safety culture, the patient safety learning framework and of the integration of human factors to the development of safety within the organisation.

Main duties of the job

As an expert in patient safety the post-holder will play a lead role in all aspects of risk reduction including:
  • Participating as an expert in systems-focused patient safety incident investigations
  • Effective governance of patient safety response processes and learning outputs
  • Education and development to improve the safety of patients
  • Risk management and assurance reporting

The post-holder will:
  • Function as a pivotal team member in the Trust's Patient Safety Insight team in line with the Trust's Patient Safety Incident Response Plan
  • Ensure effective day to day operation of the Trust's insight systems and processes
  • Be expected to participate in further specialist professional development required by Health Education England's national patient safety syllabus.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Post graduate diploma in a relevant subject e.g. risk management or equivalent or equivalent experience
  • Completion of recognised patient safety incident investigation qualification or working towards


Desirable

  • Recognised teaching qualification or equivalent experience


Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a patient safety role or relevant work at senior level in NHS or equivalent healthcare organisation
  • Experience of investigating complex incidents/ issues/risks
  • Ability to provide analytical assurance reports of a high standard to senior managers


Desirable

  • Experience of designing and delivering education and training programmes to a wide range of staff
  • Experience of use of change management preferably relating to the safety of patients or associated risk projects
  • Experience of developing trust documents including policies, training plans


Skills and Abilities
