An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic team player to join the Nutrition and Dietetic Service in Swansea Bay University Health Board, based in Singleton Hospital. The post is a full time (37.5 hours per week), fixed term for 7 months.

This post would be suitable for a highly motivated Nurse who has a wide knowledge and experience of working with a diverse clinical caseload of adults and is looking to improve their knowledge and skills in Nutritional support and cancer in the acute and community setting.

Main duties of the job

You will manage your own clinical caseload of clients from Swansea and Neath Port Talbot who have a Head and Neck Cancer diagnosis and will be receiving treatment in Singleton and Morriston Hospital. This post will be key in developing strong links with the Swansea Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Team to ensure patient receives advice and support regarding enteral feeding and feeding tubes before, during and after their treatment. The post holder will also work in collaboration with the Hywel Dda MDT as they follow the patient pathway. You will be required to work autonomously, organising your own caseload, assessing, implementing and facilitating the needs of people with Head & Neck cancers requiring feeding tubes.

You will enjoy the support of a senior mentor and will be expected to supervise and mentor students and junior staff in conjunction with the Singleton Unit Clinical Lead Dietitian.We offer departmental CPD time to support your development and are committed to the development of teaching and presentation skills, evidenced based practice, research and clinical audit. You will be supported in attending relevant professional networking meetings, interest groups.

Administrative support and Dietetic Support Worker assistance is available within the department.

The Health Board has University status with Colleges of Medicine on site.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Current NMC Registration on relevant part of Register
  • Post registration training in relevant area


Desirable

  • Recognised teaching qualification.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Good awareness of artificial nutritional support and demonstrable clinical knowledge in delivery of clinically assisted nutritional care and enteral feeding tube management.


Experience

Essential

  • Significant and broad experience in general nursing practice.
  • Evidence of significant multi-disciplinary working.
  • Experience in a range of duties involved with artificial nutritional support e.g. placement of NGT's, care of gastrostomies.


Aptitude and Abilities

Essential

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including developed oral and written communication skills with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Able to work on own initiative in a professional manner under pressure as well as having effective teamwork skills.
  • Highly developed organisational skills to be able to set priorities and meet daily deadlines.
  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.
