With a current establishment of over 100 members across all departments we are looking to recruit a compassionate and caring, highly motivated individual to join our already well-established ward-based clinical pharmacy services team.

As a medicines Management Technician, you will work alongside our clinical pharmacists, the wider pharmacy team and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the optimal use of medicines for our patients. Providing Pharmacy services close to patients.

The ideal candidate should approachable, adaptable, hardworking, have a good attention to detail and possess a passion for providing patient centred care. Individuals must also be able to communicate effectively, use their own initiative and manage their own time effectively.

Main duties of the job

As a ward-based medicines Management Technician, you will be required:

To obtain accurate medicine reconciliations in a timely manner

To identify, assess and check suitability of patients own drugs for use whilst an inpatient and on discharge

To order any medicines required for service users and ward stocks using electronic ordering systems

To highlight compliance issues and to assist with medication compliance

To liaise with GPs, community pharmacies and other primary care professionals to ensure safe use of medicines and continuity of care is maintained

To give advice to staff and service users and facilitate ward staff in the safe use of medicines

To participate in discharge planning and dispensing of prescriptions in a timely manner and provide any medication counselling if needed

To organise and participate in quarterly controlled drug checks at ward level

To assist in training newly appointed medicine management technicians

To work as an accredited accuracy checking technician after obtaining the necessary competency training.

There will also be a need to cover dispensary-based tasks which will include, labelling and dispensing prescriptions including controlled drugs, final accuracy checking of dispensed medicines

Person Specification



  • In-patient/Out-patient dispensing experience
  • Significant experience post qualification to include previous hospital experience


  • Ward based clinical pharmacy experience including re-use of patients own schemes



  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • Extended role checking technician (or fulfills the criteria to undertake training)
