The Children's Day Care Unit has a vacancy for a Band 5 Nurse to make a positive contribution to the care of babies, children and young people up to the age of 16 years who are undergoing a variety of day case procedures.

Main duties of the job

To work as a multi-skilled member of the Children's Day Care team

To maintain high standards of practice and promoting the philosophy of child and family centred care.

To assist senior nursing staff in the clinical management of the department, maintaining high standards of nursing practice and promoting the philosophy of child and family centred care.

To complete a 3 month rotation on the general paediatric ward. (Children's Inpatient Ward)

    Job responsibilities

    As a member of the nursing team participate in maintaining good working relationships and promote good communications within the ward environment.

    To assist in maintaining the health and safety requirements of all children and young persons, carers, visitors and staff.

    To be an active member of the ward team contributing ideas to improve/maintain efficiency within the area and utilise resources effectively.

    Is familiar with national and agreed Division/Trust policies and procedures and will apply them in her/his practice.

    Reports any accidents/untoward incidents/unsafe practices involving children/ carers and/or staff to the Sister/Modern Matron/Head of Childrens Nursing in line with Trust policy.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications and Training

    Essential

    • Occupational Health and DBS Clearance.
    • Functioning at diploma/degree level
    • Part 8/15 on register/ awaiting pin


    Desirable

    • Mentorship


    Experience

    Essential

    • Basic Life Support.
    • Evidence of ED placement in final year


    Desirable

    • Significant post-registration experience in an acute setting/ ED


    Knowledge

    Essential

    • Ability to organise own work and prioritise workload.
    • Interest in teaching.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills and numeracy skills.
    • Understanding of safeguarding.
    • Evidence of continuing professional development


    Desirable

    • Competent in IV drug administration
    • I.T skills
