We have the perfect job for you. We are delighted to be advertising a Specialist Band 6 Physiotherapy Respiratory Rotation post to work in the following 9 monthly rotations:
  • Acute medicine (BRI)
    • Neuromuscular pts, acute NIV, Critical Care step down rehab, Respiratory High Care, general medical respiratory inc COPD & bronchiectasis
  • Acute respiratory medicine + ITU (Weston General Hospital)
    • General ITU, acute medical wards, Emergency & elective surgery
  • Home NIV (BRI)
    • Mix of settings, out-patient clinics, inpatients wards & home visits. Manging complex neuromuscular disease in association with long term homeventilation & cough augmentation
  • Critical Care (BRI)
    • General & Cardiacunits, SARF centre including ECMO, specialist surgical centre for thoracic, Upper GI & Hepatobiliary. Follow-up clinics, transitional care to wards.
  • Respiratory Out-patients (BRI)
    • Caseload includes Bronchiectasis, breathing pattern disorders, complex COPD & asthma
  • Adult Cystic Fibrosis (BRI)
    • Out-patient clinics, inpatients wards & home visits. Management of long-term condition to include airway clearance,exercise & lifestyle modifications

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Physiotherapist who is alreadya skilled clinician with previous related respiratory rehab experience. You will be naturally empathetic, demonstrating good communication skills to facilitate close working relationships with both service users and staff.

You will need to be creative and flexible to meet the changing needs of the caseload and service.

You will demonstrate and develop emerging leadership qualities and take an active interest in the teaching and development of others.

Youwill manage your own caseload, whilst working aspart of an interdisciplinary team alongside Occupational Therapists, Technicians and Physiotherapists.

For some rotations there will be a commitment to 1:4 weekend working + 2 bank holiday throughout a year. There is also a requirement to contribute to the Respiratory on-call rota.

Our rotations are across the BRI and Weston General Hospital with some home visit requirement, you will be expected to be able to travel to meet these role requirements.

We also wish to make candidates aware that for these roles we do not have any funding available to support successful candidates with relocation costs. As an organisation we will cover the cost of any Certificates of Sponsorshipsrequired but this is the only cost we can support.

Person Specification



  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy
  • Health Professions Council registered
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development


  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Involvement in Relevant Special Clinical Interest Groups



  • Experience of working within acute respiratory as a Band 6 (with exposure to Critical Care, NIV and tracheostomies)
  • A variety of experience in core areas, as postgraduate physiotherapist i.e T& O, musculoskeletal, respiratory & neurological, dealing with a wide range of patients with differing needs
  • Experience of working as part of a Physiotherapy team and/or multidisciplinary team


  • Experience of working in the following areas is desirable: critical care, neurological conditions with respiratory impact, cough augmentation



  • Evidence of previous experience and participation in audit
  • Contributing to clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants
  • Clinical Supervision of students and assistant staff



  • Effective communication skills both verbal & written
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Ability to plan, prioritise & delegate
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Demonstrate Assessment, Analytical & Reflective skills across a diverse patient group
  • Ability to meet deadlines & work under pressure

  • Ability to effectively perform patient assessments & interventions, including respiratory treatment & therapeutic handling

  • Competent IT Skills
  • Ability to travel between sites
