If so, we have a great opportunity for an experienced and dynamic Systemic Family Psychotherapist who has passion for CAMHS and innovative ways of working and who wishes to develop leadership and management skills.

Main duties of the job

This post is an integral part of the service with varied and exciting opportunities.You will be part of the Family Mental Health Team (FMHT) within the newly established Child Complex Mental Health service line structures.You will offer clinical and line management supervision for junior members of staff including qualified Systemic Family Therapists (SFT), Systemic Family Practitioner (Recruit to Train)Trainee and MA SFT students on placement with FMHT. You will have a leadership role in the systemic discipline in the team and oversee the allocations of systemic family therapy cases to M6 (MA in SFT) clinics in the Family Mental Health Team.

You will be offering consultation to colleagues and network.

You will attend referrals meetings and provide support to junior clinicians with intake work.

You will provide direct clinical input to children, young people and their parents/carers. As a senior clinician you will be providing services to clients presenting with a high level of risk and complexity in a multi-agency environment.

As one of the senior members of the team, you will work alongside other senior staff and contribute to the team's development, as we continue to strive to be an accessible, responsive and innovative service with patient care and patient experience at its heart. There will be a number of opportunities to develop your leadership and strategic skills with support from senior colleagues.

Person Specification



  • First qualification in appropriate mental health/social welfare profession (such as Social Work, Clinical/Counselling Psychology, Nursing or Counselling) and post-qualifying experience in the first profession
  • MSc qualification in family/systemic psychotherapy
  • Full and current registration as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist with UKCP
  • Qualification of Systemic and Family Therapy Supervision and registration with AFT as a systemic supervisor, or currently undertaking training and is due to be registered in near future or willingness and ability to undertake the training in future
  • Training in safeguarding issues and contextual safeguarding issues, e.g. CSE, CCE, domestic violence/abuse


  • Training in parenting interventions, e.g. Incredible Years, Non-Violence Resistance parenting groups
  • Additional training in other therapeutic approaches, e.g. trauma-focused work, mindfulness, mentalization-based therapy, VIG, motivational interviewing
  • Training in Quality Improvement



  • Substantial experience of working in the relevant first profession with children, young people, parents/carers and families, including the ability to work autonomously.
  • Substantial post-qualifying experience as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist of working with children, young people, parents/carers, families and professional network, including the ability to work autonomously.
  • Substantial post-qualifying experience as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist of working with difficult, disturbed or challenging client populations requiring skilled and complex interventions.
  • Substantial post-qualifying experience as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist of working with multi-agency/professional networks and awareness of issues for such networks and teams.
  • Substantial post-qualifying experience as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist of working in a community CAMHS setting and conducting CAMHS assessments and interventions.
  • Experience of the application of CAMHS assessments and interventions within a multi-cultural framework.
  • Substantial experience of working with a high level of complexity and risk, risk assessment and management in various areas of risks, including mental health and safeguarding risks.
  • Substantial experience in working in partnership with the Local Authority/Children's Social Care and wider network to manage cases with a high level of safeguarding concerns including abuse, neglect and contextual safeguarding issues and cases in/near care proceedings
  • Experience of working with children and families within a community multi-professional team.
  • Experience in engaging hard to reach populations in community CAMHS.
  • Experience of providing systemic consultations regarding complex clinical matters in a multidisciplinary / multiagency context.
  • Experience of working as a CAMHS clinician in an outreach setting.
  • Substantial experience of providing systemic supervision
  • Experience of using outcome measures in a CAMHS setting


  • Experience of parenting assessment for Court and writing reports for care proceedings as expert witness
  • Experience of conducting research in a clinical setting.
  • Experience of providing systemic supervision to qualified family & systemic psychotherapists and other professionals
  • Experience of providing live supervision to a family therapy team
  • Experience of line management in CAMHS
  • Experience of delivering training and teaching on a range of relevant topics, including CAMHS issues and systemic approaches
  • Experience of working with children with neuro-developmental disorders, such as ASD and ADHD.
  • Experience of running groups, e.g. groups for CYP and parenting programme
  • Experience of Quality Improvement projects
  • Experience of service user involvement initiatives
  • Experience of service development and being involved with strategic developments of services
  • Experience of supporting other staff with using outcome measures and embedding them organisationally in a CAMHS setting
