An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the renal ward in the Trust. in the Trust.

The post holders will be primarily based on Ward 32, an 18 bedded renal in-patient ward at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, however, will be required to work within the remit of the Renal Services.

We are searching for a dynamic, highly motivated and passionate individual committed to high quality patient care within the renal setting. The post holder must have a flexible approach, and be committed to delivering high standards of patient focused care this is an essential requirement of the post. The post holder will also be required to demonstrate professional attributes, including, diversity, dealing with change, able to work autonomously and effectively within the multidisciplinary team.

The post will provide an excellent opportunity for a nurse to display excellent interpersonal and communication skills across the Renal MDT. We are looking for someone who will develop excellent clinical and leadership skills, who can make decisions and be a role model for the nursing workforce.

Main duties of the job

Maintain the highest standard of patient care at all times. provide leadership and support to all members of the team and ensure they are conversant with the Trusts policies.

Act as a resource of specialised knowledge and clinical expertise to ensure care delivery is appropriate and evidence based. Promote an effective learning environment for the multi-disciplinary team.

Demonstrates clinical expertise by role modelling patient centred practice to others.

Assess and implement any necessary actions to ensure the efficient management of the ward as directed by the Senior sister/ Charge Nurse

Demonstrates an appreciation of information technology to enable effective and efficient use of information in line with trust developments.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience


  • Scope roles relevant to speciality
  • Evidence of Ward / Dept management under supervision
  • Development of knowledge and skills in speciality
  • Fully aware of principles of infection control
  • Fully aware of health and safety issues
  • Proven Experience at Band 5
  • National and local nutritional initiatives/policies
  • NICE guidelines pertinent to Nutritional care of patients / service delivery


  • Previous experience of complaints handling
  • Experience of carrying out and monitoring PDA process
  • Evidence of management responsibilities already undertaken



  • RN with current registration
  • Up-to-date knowledge of professional issues
  • Teaching certificate (or evidence of working towards) or equivalent relevant experience
  • Demonstrate professional post-registration development
  • Computer literacy


  • Participation in management development courses

Personal Attributes & Skills


  • Demonstrate good verbal communication skills with multidisciplinary team/clients/relatives
  • Demonstrate the ability to deliver educational and clinical skills training
  • Able to accommodate the demands of the post with flexible working practice as required with good attendance and high standards of clinical care
  • Precise and methodical working practice and demonstrate ability to work and manage the ward day to day unsupervised.


  • Demonstrate knowledge of dealing with conflict supporting staff through mechanisms such as clinical supervision
  • Provide evidence of supervisor/ implementation of teaching programmes for student nurses, eg preceptorship education, mentorship
  • Evidence of change management and involvement in service development.
