An opportunity has arisen to join the Dental Service covering South of Tyne and Wear on a 12 month fixed term basis. Duties will include the provision of high quality dental care complementary to the General Dental Services for priority groups of patients.

Working in a large and supportive dental team, the post holder will be able to enhance their skills in anxiety management, paediatric and special care dentistry.

Base TBC.

we will consider full time or part time applicants working a minimum of 3 days/week

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work 10 sessions per week full time equivalent and be expected to meet the competencies for a Band A dentist.

You must be fully registered with the UK General Dental Council and be eligible for the National Dental Performers List without conditions or restrictions.

You will be able to demonstrate relevant clinical experience and have evidence in a portfolio of continuing professional development. You must also have excellent communication skills, and be sensitive to the needs of relevant patient groups

Job responsibilities



To provide a full range of high quality dental advice and treatment, including treatment under general anaesthesia and sedation.

To provide care in a domiciliary setting, where appropriate

To ensure high quality standards of evidence-based clinical care.

To maintain accurate clinical and statistical records of all activities undertaken on behalf of South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust (STSFT)

To promote Oral Health Education, give preventive advice to all patients and liaise with the oral health promotion team.

To liaise with other community dental staff and allied health professionals in providing care for special needs groups.

To take part in oral screening and epidemiological data collection.

Person Specification



  • Eligible for UK Dental Performer List without conditions or restrictions
  • Skills conducive to practice of dentistry


  • Experience in working with special needs groups
  • Experience in community dentistry
  • Experience in inhalational sedation techniques.

Physical Requirements


  • Excellent physical dexterity skills



  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery or equivalent
  • Registered General Dental Practitioner
  • Full registration with the UK General Dental Council


  • Has completed vocational training

Car Driver


  • Must be able to drive and have use of own transport
