We are looking for an enthusiastic, operational manager with fantastic communication skills and a pro-active approach and to join our team as the Deputy General Manager for Trauma and Orthopaedics. The post holder will be passionate about working with the clinical teams, to develop the service and provide outstanding care for our patients.

Trauma and Orthopaedics at MTW is a large multi-site service, providing care for adults across West Kent and children across the entire Kent region. We are made up of 18 consultant orthopaedic surgeons, including 4 paediatric orthopaedic surgeons and operate on over 300 elective patients each month. The trauma service is at Tunbridge Wells hospital and elective surgery currently takes place across both sites, with a dedicated theatre in Maidstone Orthopaedic Unit.

Ideally you will have operational experience managing a large surgical service, however this is not an essential requirement.

Main duties of the job

- Manage our elective pathways, from referral into our MSK service, through outpatients and diagnostics, to operative treatment.

- Work closely with the Clinical Director and theatres team to ensure maximum efficiency and utilisation

- Support patient flow for trauma pathways, ensuring patients are reviewed quickly in ED and operated on with national guidelines.

- Work closely with the matron and multidisciplinary teams to ensure patients are discharged when ready to manage the elective and emergency bed capacity.

- Lead our admin team to provide the best patient care, support the clinical team as required, and develop individuals in the team to be future leaders.

- Support the rota coordinator and clinical lead to manage and develop junior doctors, surgical care practitioners and physician associates.

- Work with other services to develop the Trauma & Orthopaedic service going forward and write business cases to ensure these are supported financially.
