An exciting opportunity for scrub nurse/operating department practitioner to become deputy team leader - Band 6 - for breast surgery based in our day surgery theatres.

Applications are invited from registered nurses as well as Operating department practitioners.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will take charge on a day to day basis for the Breast surgery scrub team.

They will work closely with the Breast surgeons to ensure that a high standard of patient care is maintained and that Trust targets and clinical governance requirements are met, escalating any issues to the band 7 Team Leader.

They will make the most efficient and economical use of resources available and undertake duties as scrub nurse and circulating nurse, providing sensitive and professional care to practice.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/Operating Department practitioner with current NMC/HCPC registration.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Specialist theatre / anaesthetic qualification.


Knowledge

Essential

  • An understanding of relevant legislation including Health & Safety.
  • An understanding of professional standards.
  • Awareness of current initiatives in the NHS.
  • Awareness of Clinical Governance / theatre best practice.
  • Able to participate in budget, stock control and cost effectiveness.
  • Understands the need for strict confidentiality.
  • Able to participate in the collection of data to support effective service delivery.
  • Ability to use and evaluate complex information.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of audit and quality issues.


Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience within the perioperative setting.
  • Proven organisational skills.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Understands and is committed to a caring approach to patients and relatives.
  • Able to lead, manage and support team.


Desirable

  • Managerial experience.
