Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit a motivated, forward thinking Advanced Clinical Specialist Radiographer in Cardiac MRI (CMRI), to join our team in Cardiothoracic Radiology at University Hospital Southampton.The successful candidate must be innovative, organised, compassionate with strong leadership skills enabling them to deputise for the Lead Cardiothoracic Superintendent Radiographer as required. They must have the relevant competencies in CMRI, to work clinically to be able to image both adults and children for thoracic and cardiac disease, including complex congenital abnormalities, as well as the competency to administer adenosine for stress examinations. This role requires the provision of supervising, teaching, training, and induction for all staff working within the CMRI service.The successful candidate must be adaptable and able to respond to fast moving and difficult situations. They must be able to collaborate with Radiographers, radiologists, cardiologists, anaesthetists and the Catheter Lab Multi-Disciplinary Team in order to provide and maintain a high-quality service to all our patients.

Job responsibilities

You will be HCPC registered with a portfolio that evidences clinical, teaching and managerial experience. You require strong clinical, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels within and external to the service, providing advice and guidance where required. You should have strong teaching skills as well as an ability to identify and lead service improvement.

You will have/ be able to- Sound knowledge of MRI safety and the MRI environment IV cannulation certificate Competency in the administration of adenosine for stressing Formal management/supervisory training Detailed knowledge of imaging systems (to level of super user) Considerable post qualification experience and expertise within Cardiac MRI Sound knowledge of all areas of Governance Knowledge of Trust policies and professional issues Excellent leadership qualities and motivational skills Ability to make decisions and support the team. Able to hold difficult conversations, manage difficult situations including disciplinary and performance matters. Innovative ideas regarding continual service improvement Able to deliver specialist training and education in both formal and informal settings.

Promoting Cardiac MR imaging excellence within the Radiographic team , at a local level, throughout the region and nationally. Work with others to deliver an effective and efficient high quality imaging service that meets the needs of both patients and referrers. Acting as the lead clinical radiographer providing direction to staff and expert advice on specialist equipment Deputising for the Lead Cardiothoracic Superintendent Radiographer including managing staff levels and skill mix across cardiothoracic radiology to meet service needs and clinical demands. Assist in the operational management the Cardiac MRI service. Managing resources to provide the imaging service. Assist with recruitment to maintain continuity of service provision. Lead, and participate in, education and training for specialism. Undertake imaging within CMR to a high standard. Plan, perform and interpret advanced radiological procedures within CMR and to train others in these techniques. Participate and contribute to the community of practice with the surrounding Trusts. Ensure that important, or life-threatening, information seen on imaging is forwarded to the referrer, radiologist and radiographer in a timely manner to allow for prompt action. Understand patient cohort and limitations. Continue to organises and facilitate the CMRI training course on an annual/ biannual basis. As an IR(ME)R delegated practitioner communicate with relevant parties regarding appropriateness of examination to ensure the medical question is answered.

  • Current HCPC registration
  • Sound knowledge of Radiation Protection and MRI safety regulations

  • MSc qualification in area of clinical specialism or equivalent experience
  • Extensive post qualification experience in Cardiac MRI
  • IV cannulation Certificate
  • Intermediate Life Support
  • Equipment Super user
