An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and clinically skilled nurse with experience of ward management.

You will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational management of the department including budget control, clinical governance, staff development and training . You will assist in leading the team to provide expert clinical and supportive care for patients admitted to the Trust with haematological disease. They will work with the multi-disciplinary teams and the wider teams in supporting patients throughout their treatment pathway, providing individualised, compassionate and informed patient care.

Main duties of the job

You should possess excellent leadership skills, Ambition and the have the desire to provide high standards of care to our patients. The post holder is require to be SACT trained and have minimum of 18 months experience as a senior nurse.

This post will require you to work a rotation of days, nights and weekends between Lord North and Chartwell Day unit

Job responsibilities

Once your pre-employment checks have been completed you will be contacted by Recruitment to arrange your start date which will be in line with one of our Corporate Inductions.Following your Corporate Induction you will be expected to attend the Trusts 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions and e-learning.

Please note that appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service Check at Enhanced Level. (Enhanced level now includes regulated checks against vulnerable adults and children)

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • oFirst level registered nurse
  • oEvidence of further education since qualification e.g. degree
  • oMentorship/Perceptorship course (or equivalent)
  • oSACT competent


Desirable

  • Management / Leadership course or a willingness to undertake


Experience

Essential

  • Recent experience at band 5 in Haematology/Oncology.
  • Proficient clinician and clinical role model


Knowledge

Essential

  • Good understanding of current issues in nursing and the NHS
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional development
  • Demonstrates excellent understanding of cancer treatments and their side effects / complications


Desirable

  • Recent experience in audit and benchmarking processes
  • Awareness of PICC service


Skills

Essential

  • IT/Keyboard skills
  • Commitment to teaching
  • Cannulation, Venepunture and PICC placement competent.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
