Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Inpatient Pain service. This role is to provide pain management support in the current service, allowing a personal development opportunity for the candidate wishing to develop their skills and practice in pain management. Flexibility in hours will be considered alongside service demands.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated registered adult nurse to join our small but dynamic team. You will practice clinically in agreed care settings working across professional, departmental and Trust boundaries as required to develop and support patient-centred seamless care. As an integral part of the team, currently working core hours, you will also support the delivery of educational programmes such as epidural, patient-controlled analgesia and local anaesthetic infiltration training.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate willBe responsible for the provision of specialist pain nursing care for a defined patient/client group, practicing as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team.Accept referrals within agreed criteria and be the identified key worker for a patient/client caseload to co-ordinate treatment and care.Provide advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals.

We are looking for a healthcare professional who is keen to broaden their skills in pain management, who can work to support service and staff development, working closely with the team.The successful candidate must have significant interest in pain management for a broad spectrum of patients and be passionate about patient centred care.

Person Specification



  • Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
  • Degree qualification or equivalence
  • Completion of all Band 5 (preceptorship) competencies
  • Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice.
  • Provide evidence of oSupporting a range of learners in practice oSupporting colleagues to promote effective learning in practice


  • Registered on MSc / PgCert Pathway
  • Completion of HTPA Competencies
  • L7 Post registration education within pain management.
  • Counselling qualification
  • IT training
  • Experience as an NMC sign off mentor or clinical practice assessor.

Previous or relevant experience necessary


  • Extensive post registration experience within specialist area.
  • Knowledge of current issues within the acute health service.
  • Understanding of personal accountability.


  • Change Management, clinical practice development.
  • Interest in nurse -led care.
