6 month fixed term secondment to join our Band 6 Senior Physiotherapist Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Team.

This is the perfect opportunity for band 5 staff wishing to gain further experience to progress their career

We are looking to recruit Band 6 physiotherapists to work in one of our inpatient, outpatient and community rotations within our large acute teaching hospitals Foundation trust.

Therapists are supported by highly skilled Clinical Specialists and Senior Therapists who are committed to delivering excellent patient care and staff development. Please see our Trust AHP Strategy attached.This role requires the application of clinical knowledge gained from a breadth of experience at Band 5 level. Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellent communication, time-management and interpersonal skills, and be motivated to work effectively both alone and as part of a team.

Main duties of the job

Band 6 Physiotherapists undertake 9 month rotations across a number of specialist teams working . Rotations are based across the trust. You will work in one of our rotational areas for the duration of your secondment.Standard rotations are within the following areas:
  • Stroke
  • Liverpool Stroke Recovery Partnership
  • Acute Medicine
  • Cardiac Rehab
  • Critical Care
  • A& E
  • Gerontology Outpatients
  • Frailty
  • Musculoskeletal
  • NIV
  • Orthopaedics
  • Major Trauma
  • Respiratory
  • Surgery

We are committed to staff development and training. You will have a named supervisor and the opportunity to attend courses and study days. You will be involved in the supervision and support of more junior staff and have the opportunity to be involved in student education, research and audit.Therapists are required to work flexibly to meet the needs, supporting a 7 day service working extended days or late shift working on-call.

Job responsibilities


1. To undertake physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose and implementagreed treatment plans, evaluate care delivery according to health careneeds for routine and complex patients.2. To advise, assist and educate, staff grade Physiotherapist and studentPhysiotherapist in the management of routine patients.3. To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all other Health & Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of patient care. This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.4. To participate in Departmental Planned Out of Hours Working andEmergency On-Call Rota.5. Represent Physiotherapy Service at Multidisciplinary Meetings to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated Multidisciplinary Service.6. Attend relevant ward rounds and clinics, working alongside theMultidisciplinary Team, assessing, advising and treating patients as required.

Person Specification



  • Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy or equivalent
  • HCPC registration



  • Significant post-registration experience in a junior rotational post providing a broad range of clinical experience to include musculoskeletal / medical / respiratory conditions
  • Majority of clinical experience in the NHS UK
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of a contribution to clinical education / supervision of less experienced staff, students or assistants



  • Broad range of clinical assessment and treatment skills based on current best practice
  • Demonstrates an ability to comprehend and work within policies on health and safety, risk management and data protection
  • Working knowledge of current NHS issues
  • Evidence of self directed learning and willingness to participate in CPD



  • Demonstrates effective and adaptable communication skills including written and verbal
  • Evidence of time management and organisational skills
  • Computer literate
  • Demonstrates an ability to pass on skills / knowledge to others
  • Demonstrates an ability to manage own work load, determine priorities and delegates tasks
  • Demonstrates an ability to problem solve
